Two suspects have been charged in connection with a shooting in South Peoria on Sunday morning that injured two people and left one in critical condition.
One of the suspects, 24-year-old Elijah C. Irby, is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, according to the Peoria County State’s Attorney. The second suspect, a 17-year-old male, is charged with aggravated unlawful use of weapons. Both suspects will remain in custody until their trials.
According to the state’s attorney, police responded in the early morning hours of Aug. 24 24 to an alert of 19 rounds fired in the 2700 block of West Trewyn Avenue. When they arrived, officers found a vehicle with bullet holes and a broken window, with a blood trail leading to the street.
Officers located three males in the area, all of whom fled on foot. Two of them were Irby and the juvenile, who were found separately in the 2500 block of Seibold, according to the state’s attorney. Officers found Irby hiding behind a bush, where they recovered a firearm, and the juvenile was hiding across the street, where officers also discovered a firearm.
