KEWANEE – The skeletal remains found at Northeast Park on Wednesday were confirmed to be those of a human adult, though identification efforts remain ongoing.
A Kewanee Park District employee contacted the Kewanee Police Department at just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, to report that skeletal remains were found by a company working to empty a restroom waste holding tank at the north end of the park. The discovery included “what appeared to be a human skull.”
An autopsy on Friday morning found the remains belonged to “an unidentified adult,” according to the Kewanee Police Department.
Investigators are working to obtain dental records, and further examination will take place to help identify the individual.
The Kewanee Police Department asked anyone with information to call (309) 853-1911 and ask for the investigations division.
