One of the biggest concerns surrounding the Chicago Bears this season is the state of their pass rush, which has been a point of contention for several years and has had an impact on the defense’s performance.
Last year, the Bears mustered just 35 sacks, which was the seventh-fewest in the NFL. Still, Chicago didn’t make any significant offseason moves to address the defensive line, which raised concerns about the pass rush and whether it would be more of the same in 2026.
General manager Ryan Poles was asked about the pass rush during his training camp press conference on Tuesday, and it didn’t sound like the Bears will be actively looking to add to their edge rusher group.
“We’re going to investigate any opportunities to get better,” Poles said. “But at the end of the day, we got to make sure we know our team. So we’ll evaluate on a daily basis and see what we need to do.”
Chicago has explored veteran options at defensive end in the past, including most recently with Yannick Ngakoue back in 2023. But the Bears seem intent on rolling with their current roster, which includes players returning from injury like Dayo Odeyingbo and Shemar Turner (who’s currently on the PUP list).
With that said, there are some high-profile veterans still on the open market, including Joey Bosa, Jadeveon Clowney and Brandon Graham. But if Chicago makes a move, it will only be after they’ve done a thorough evaluation of their roster.
“We can cross that bridge if we ever need to go across it, but we’re looking for competition, guys coming to compete and really fall into the role to help us win football games.”
