ROCKFORD, IL — A Rockford man has been charged with murder in three separate cases from 2022.
The latest charge stems from an Aug. 2, 2022, fatal shooting at a Marathon gas station, 3299, S. Alpine Road, in Rockford.
According to a news release from the Rockford Police Department, officers responded to a report of shots fired at the gas station about 4:56 a.m. Upon arrival, officers located a shooting victim, later identified as 20-year-old Zamarye Charles, inside the driver’s seat of a vehicle. Charles was taken to a local hospital where he died on Aug. 8.
On April 9, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized first degree murder charges against Deontez “Tookie” Williams, 35, of Rockford, in the shooting death of Charles.
Williams is facing charges in two other murders — a death that occurred March 14, 2022, in Loves Park and another death that took place Aug. 5, 2022, also in Loves Park.
He was arrested on Sept. 8, 2022, after fleeing from police in Toledo, Ohio, and is in custody in the Winnebago County Jail.
