PEORIA — A new apartment building proposed for Knoxville Avenue in Peoria was unanimously approved by the Peoria City Council this week despite previous outcries from nearby residents about the development.
The council approved a special-use ordinance for the proposed apartments, which would be built at 7211 N. Knoxville Ave., on its consent agenda without any discussion Tuesday night.
Residents of the Country Meadows Home Owners Association, a 55 and older living community, opposed the development earlier this month at a planning and zoning commission meeting where they raised concerns about increased traffic and strangers in their tight-knit neighborhood.
Despite those concerns the City Council moved ahead with approval for the apartment complex, which would be six or seven “market-rate” units built by developer SRP Capital.
