Peoria TV journalist, anchor leaves station after four years for job on east coast

WMBD/WYZZ news personality Shabnam Danesh announced Sunday that Monday would be her last day as a reporter and weekend anchor at the station.

“This wasn’t a decision I made lightly,” Danesh said. “Over the past four and a half years, I’ve truly grown to love central Illinois. It’s hard to leave behind a supportive newsroom filled with amazing coworkers, meaningful friendships, and a loyal viewership that has always been kind and encouraging, both on and off camera.

Originally from Rhode Island, Danesh came to Peoria in 2021 after graduating from American University in Washington, D.C., with a master’s degree in journalism and public affairs. Prior to beginning a journalism career, she worked as a criminal justice researcher and legal administrator. She holds a master’s degree in criminal justice, a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and a paralegal certificate.

Danesh said she has accepted an on-air reporter position on the east coast and would reveal her new position once she begins working at the new station. She cited a desire to be closer to her family in Rhode Island as her primary reason for the move.
