PEORIA — Kam Gardiner has been invited to participate in the USA Swimming national select camp.
The Peoria Notre Dame freshman will head to the United States Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs from Oct. 23-26. She will be joined by 52 other swimmers to experience the “day-to-day routine of a USA national team.”

Gardiner, who holds the Illinois youth swimming record for the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.46), is coming off winning a pair of individual events — the 200 IM and the 100-yard breaststroke — in Thursday’s meet at Washington.
“This honor reflects the hard work she puts into training,” PND coach Derek Amerman said, “and is the next step toward her life-long dream of representing the United States at international competitions.”
Athletes are selected based on the USA Swimming SWIMS database of top times.
