A 30-year-old Peoria man is dead after a Thursday morning collision on Interstate 74 in East Peoria, according to Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.
Illinois State Police responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle that occurred around 7:50 a.m. Thursday. One man was transported to an area hospital and later succumbed to his injuries, according to ISP.

The coroner identified the man as Dominque Stringer.
According to witnesses, the semi-truck was traveling westbound on I-74 when two rear tires on the trailer’s rims with the axle, broke off, initially striking a concrete barrier and then bouncing into the eastbound lanes, where they struck the SUV’s windshield. The SUV, very heavily damaged, traveled off of exit 95, striking a concrete retaining wall, the Coroner’s Office said.
ISP temporarily closed the I-74 eastbound exit ramp 95A for a crash investigation and reopened the ramp at about 11:37 a.m. The crash remains under investigation by ISP and the Peoria County Coroner’s Office.
