SPRINGFIELD, IL – A brand new cafe serving sweet bites served cold, hot, or on ice opened officially in Springfield last week.
Chocolate Cafe, a sweets-centered drinks and pastry shop opened on Aug. 6 at 4151 Wabash Ave. to the public with a ribbon cutting and surprise chances for customers to win a free coffee, crepe or mojito.
Yes, mojito.
On the drinks side of things, customers can pick between lattes, cold or hot coffee, ice cream milkshakes and mojitos ranging around $7 per drink and drizzled in chocolate, caramel or Dubai chocolate pistachio.
On the food side, the bakery is serving up cinnamon rolls, brownies, cheesecake and chocolate crepes – the specialty of the business owner, according to owner Hamzah Qattum.
He recommended a chocolate ball drink which bursts when put in milk like hot chocolate that goes perfectly with pancakes, or ice cream.
Qattum said the reason for the restaurant was because of a need for a sweets cafe using specialty chocolate on the west side and hopes to find his niche alongside nearby businesses in the shopping plaza.
Hours after opening will be 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday.
