The Chicago Bears have gone several straight practices with notable injuries during training camp, and Sunday’s session was no different. Rookie wide receiver Zavion Thomas exited practice with an apparent injury, according to the media in attendance.
Adam Hoge noted that Thomas “briefly grabbed his knee and then walked off with a slight limp.” The injury occurred when he got knocked down during 7-on-7 drills, per Sean Hammond. Thomas did not return to practice.
The severity of his injury is currently unknown, but it adds to a concerning trend so far in training camp. Chicago just lost fellow wide receiver Luther Burden III to injury in camp yesterday and with Thomas now going down, the Bears depth at wide receiver is getting tested early.
Prior to his injury, Thomas had been performing well in camp including an impressive touchdown back in the first week of training camp with the second-team offense and getting some work in on special teams.
The Bears will be hoping his injury is not too severe as head coach Ben Johnson was planning to use Thomas in some specific offensive packages this season to maximize his incredible speed as he had a 4.28 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine.
