ROCKFORD, IL — A man has pleaded guilty to the Jan. 1, 2025, sexual assault of a 76-year-old woman on the Rock River Recreational Path and was sentenced to 27 years in prison by Winnebago County Judge Debra Schafer.
Jacinto Ramon Albarran Tovar, 31, pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault, according to information from the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office.
A woman told police she was running on the Rock River Path near the 2300 block of Illinois Avenue when Albarran Tovar ran up to her and tried to show her something on his phone. After several attempts the victim stopped and looked at the phone and was shown a pornographic picture.
A few seconds later, Albarran Tovar forced the victim off the bike path and into nearby bushes. The defendantsexually assaulted the victim before running away. The woman was able to flag down another runner who called 911.
Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of six to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a mandatory supervised release period of three years to natural life. The defendant must serve 85% of the sentence.
