Chicago Bears training camp is in full swing ahead of the 2026 regular season. Under second-year head coach Ben Johnson, the Bears are looking to build on their success from last year and keep pace in a crowded NFC with important meetings and practices at Halas Hall.
Saturday’s practice was supposed to be another one in front of the fans, but the weather had other plans. Rain and lightning forced the Bears to close practice with the first portion being held inside the Walter Payton Center before returning to the outdoors. That’s where the defense shined and took advantage of mistakes by the offense.
Following every Bears training camp practice, we at Bears Wire will highlight the top players who stood out on the field. Here are the players who stood out on Day 4 of practice:
1. S Coby Bryant
Coby Bryant stood out as arguably the best performer from Saturday’s practice according to those in attendance. Bryant picked off quarterback Caleb Williams on a pass intended for wide receiver Maurice Alexander. He read the pass well and took advantage of an overthrow to bring in the pick. Bear Report’s Zack Pearson noted that Bryant could have had another interception later on.
2. CB Jaylon Johnson
The defense as a whole won the day with Bryant leading the way with his interception, but Jaylon Johnson also stood out for his play as well. CHGO’s Mark Carman saw Johnson make a deflection on a pass that nearly led to an interception by Jack Sanborn. Mason Williams of the Times of Northwest Indiana notes the Bears had seven pass breakups during the practice.
3. WR Zavion Thomas
It wasn’t all bad for the offense on Saturday. Despite the defensive dominance for much of the day, the Bears offense was still able to find the end zone. Rookie receiver Zavion Thomas flashed with a touchdown to end practice. Quarterback Tyson Bagent found Thomas on a quick out route where the rookie reached the ball across the pylon for the score with Josh Blackwell in coverage.
