Aug. 1 is always a big day on the college hockey calendar as it marks the date when rising high school juniors can verbally commit to NCAA programs across the country.
The Michigan State University hockey program has seen its recruiting efforts land big commitments since Adam Nightingale and his staff took over four years ago. And the Spartans were very active once again by securing three commitments projected to play for MSU in the 2028-29 season.
Goaltender Mason Martin, forward Jack Trupiano, and defenseman Andrew Krochalk all announced their pledges to MSU on Saturday. All three players are Michigan natives and will skate for the U.S. National Team Development Program’s U-17 team this season.
Martin is already a 6’3, 165-pound goaltender at just 16-years-old. He is a native of Byron Center and played AAA hockey with Fox Motors in Grand Rapids, where he kept his goals-against average under 2.00 this past season.
Trupiano is a 6’0, 183-pound forward who played AAA hockey with the heralded Little Caesars program, where he was the team’s leading point-scorer with 23 goals and 18 assists in 20 games this past season.
Krochalk is a Caledonia native and also skated with Fox Motors this past season, including two games at the U-16 and U-18 levels. He is a 5’11, 154-pound left-shot defenseman who had six goals and seven assists across 30 games this past season.
MSU is expected to remain active, looking to secure more future pledges in the coming days.
