The Detroit Lions bolstered its defense on Saturday afternoon, signing veteran linebacker and Super Bowl champion Devin White.
White, 28, is coming off a bounce back 2025 campaign with the Las Vegas Raiders that saw him rank third in the NFL in total tackles with 174. That was a career-high number of tackles for White. White was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the fifth overall pick out of LSU in the 2019 NFL Draft.
White racked up a game-high 12 tackles in Tampa Bay’s 31-9 Super Bowl LV victory over the Kansas City Chiefs to cap the 2020 NFL season. The former Buc put one of the final exclamation marks on the victory as he intercepted Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. White would add a pair of tackles for loss in the title-clincher, too.
White was a second-team All-Pro during that 2020 championship season as he totaled 140 tackles, nine sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He was also a Pro Bowler in 2021.
After playing for the Bucs from 2019-23, White signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles but was released in October of 2024 without having played a defensive snap for the Eagles. White would join the Houston Texans in late October of 2024, playing in seven games and recording 19 tackles as a reserve.
In his NFL career, White has totaled 759 tackles, 25.5 sacks, 24 passes defended, eight fumble recoveries, seven forced fumbles and four interceptions.
White brings much-needed veteran leadership to pair with Lions first-team All-Pro linebacker Jack Campbell.
