New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson has put together an impressive resume during his first four NFL seasons.
Now, he’s chasing something bigger. Speaking with reporters at Jets training camp, Wilson said he’s focused on doing whatever the New York Jets need him to do to play meaningful football late into the regular season.
“Whatever they expect out of me, I got to do that,” Wilson said. “If they expect a little more, I got to do that. I believe we have the pieces in place. That will get us to playing that meaningful football in December.”
The Jets are counting on Wilson to be one of the driving forces behind that push, and they have surrounded him with a nice supporting cast at wide receiver. Head coach Aaron Glenn believes the offense is well suited to maximize the star receiver’s skill set.
“He’s chomping at the bit, especially with the type of offense that we have,” Glenn said. “I think it fits exactly what Garrett can do well.”
Wilson has already established himself as one of the NFL’s premier receivers. If he and the Jets’ revamped offense develop the chemistry they’re hoping for, the meaningful games he’s talking about may finally become a reality.
New York looks to extend the important stretches of its season beyond the early winter months. Wilson has already proven he can produce at an elite level. The next step, for both him and the Jets, is turning that production into meaningful victories down the stretch.
