SPRINGFIELD, IL – Two people were shot in Springfield on June 28, while the suspect was found later with an “apparent” self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.
Springfield Police officers responded to a shooting at 3430 Peoria Road around 3:20 p.m., where they found a 33-year-old woman with life-threatening gunshot wounds on her face and shoulder.
Officers also found a 42-year-old man with a gunshot wound on his arm. Both people were given medical attention and taken to HSHS St. John’s Hospital for treatment. Neither of the victim’s conditions are not known as of the afternoon on June 29.
Springfield police said in a news release that the alleged shooter, Scott C. Schattl, 52, forcibly entered the residence and shot the people. He then drove off in a vehicle.
The Illinois State Police later located Schattl’s vehicle in Stark County, Illinois. He was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Springfield police said.
According to a news reports, Schattl had fled a traffic stop that was attempted around 7 p.m. The car eventually stopped in rural Brimfield, on North Kramm Road, north of Illinois Route 8.
