Peoria man pleads guilty in two sexual abuse cases

A Peoria man pleaded guilty Monday to sexual abuse charges in two separate cases involving teenage girls.

Danny D. Devine, Jr., 29, had been charged in two separate cases with sexually abusing a 15-year-old and 16-year-old respectively in 2022 and 2024. On Monday, he officially pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse charges in both cases just before he was set to go to trial in front of Peoria County Circuit Judge Katherine Gorman.

According to the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office, in one case, Devine had befriended the 15-year-old girl online, with the relationship eventually turning sexual. However, Devine became violent and possessive, at one point accusing the girl of cheating on him with someone else.

In the second case involving a 16-year-old, Devine became violent and possessive enough that he had his name tattooed on her thigh, the state’s attorney said.

Devine was aware that both girls were minors.

Sentencing in the case is set for Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. Devine faces up to seven years in prison in both cases, with the court determining if both sentences would be served concurrently or consecutively.
