The Kroger grocery store on Sterling Avenue in Peoria will permanently close next month as part of the chain’s nationwide cutbacks.
“Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to close the Sterling store,” a Kroger spokesperson said Monday in a statement. “While we are leaving this location, we will offer each impacted associate the opportunity to transfer to a new location.”
“This closure is part of a larger company-wide decision to run more efficiently and ensure the long-term health of our business.”
The closure of store, located at 3311 N. Sterling Ave., will be effective about Aug. 2.
Over the next 18 months, the Cincinnati-based supermarket retailer plans to close 60 stores. Kroger has not released a full list of stores set to close, but news of some specific closures has emerged.
In 2018, Kroger also closed two of its longtime locations in Peoria — the Harmon Highway store near South Peoria and the Wisconsin Avenue store in the East Bluff.
