Illinois State Fair to offer daily story time sessions for families. Here's when, where

The Illinois State Fair kicks off today, and part of its scheduled entertainment includes a daily story time session in collaboration with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, according to an Aug. 6 press release.

“The Illinois State Fair theme is Adventure Awaits, and there is no limit to the adventures available to kids through good books,” Illinois State Fair Manager Rebecca Clark said in the release. “By bringing this partnership to the fairgrounds, we’re opening the door for more children to discover the magic and joy that reading has to offer.”

Here’s what we know.

When and where is daily story time at Illinois State Fair?

The story time session will be held from 2-3 p.m. inside the Sensory Station (Emmerson Building) each day of the fair.

The program is “the perfect mid-day pause in the air-conditioning,” allowing children a chance to unwind and listen before returning to the excitement of the fair, according to the press release.

The two organizations are also teaming together to offer a book gifting program for young children in an effort to promote early childhood literacy. As part of the program, children up to five years old will be mailed “free, high-quality and age-appropriate” books, “regardless of the family’s income,” according to the release.
