Illinois Central College increases enrollment from 2024

Improved programming and flexible class options at Illinois Central College are being credited for a continued rise in enrollment, according to new data from the college’s fall semester.

For the sixth consecutive semester, student registration has seen an uptick, with the college enrolling 8,232 students for fall 2025 — a 2.5% increase over fall 2024. As of Aug. 20, the college reported, credit hours have also seen an increase of 3% as students have registered for 2,013 more credit hours than last year.

The college has also become more diverse demographically, with enrollment for students of color increasing 3.4% and adult student enrollment rising 10.8%.

In a news release, ICC President Dr. Sheila Quirk-Bailey said the school’s continued growth is a result of the efforts the college puts toward removing barriers and creating pathways to engagement, completion, transfer and career opportunities.

“At Illinois Central College, every initiative centers on student success — whether a student’s goal is to transfer to a university of earn a credential providing an in-demand technical skill,” Quirk-Bailey stated.

Among the initiatives fostering growth are flexible learning options including online, hybrid and eight-week courses benefitting working adults, the college shared. As ICC converts to an eight-week schedule in fall 2026, shorter courses help students manage a higher credit load and gain confidence.

Placement reforms and new assessment tools have reduced the number of students in developmental courses by 66%, the college stated. Improved advising and streamlined services have strengthened the enrollment process, and the college’s new programs in information technology and electric vehicle technology have drawn students desiring training for in-demand skills and grown career and technical education programs.

While much of the data centers around traditional semesters, 835 students enrolled in summer 2025 in ICC’s corporate and community education courses, and 51 students participated in workforce programs. These programs meet students where they are by offering short-term professional certifications, which can be stacked into certificates and degrees to earn credentials and advance students’ careers, the college said.
