Energy costs rising in Illinois. Are you eligible for assistance?

Rising energy costs in Illinois have caused an increasingly large number of residents to seek assistance, particularly those above the age of 62.

At an energy roundtable hosted by U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen last week, representatives from Peoria Township, Tazwood Community Services and St. Vincent de Paul Society said Illinois residents are struggling to earn enough to cover all their bills as local costs of living soar.

Ameren, one of Illinois’ largest utility providers, was noticeably absent from the discussion despite earning more than $1 billion in profits last year.

Instead, the energy company is advertising its various financial assistance programs for those struggling to pay their bills, telling Peoria-based 104.9 The Wolf about steps eligible customers can take.
