BASEBALL 

Stars of the Day 

Karter Marks/Jacob Scheffler, Springfield High: Marks pitched six relief innings for the win and Jacob Scheffler doubled twice and scored in the Senators’ 6-2 win over Auburn. Marks struck out nine, walked two and gave up two hits and one earned run. Brody Scheffler had a two-run single.  

Drew Ward, Sacred Heart-Griffin: Ward socked two doubles and finished with three hits, two runs and an RBI as the Cyclones (11-3) beat Collinsville 7-1. Ethan Cour (2-for-2) homered and doubled, Carson Butler homered and Austin Rutter ended 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.  

Colten Knoedler/Cameron Murphy, Chatham Glenwood: Knoedler finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and Murphy tossed four scoreless in Glenwood’s 10-0 win over Quincy Notre Dame in five innings. Murphy struck out seven, walked one and allowed two hits, while Dylan Huff doubled in a run and finished with three RBIs. 

Austin Lucas/Grady Rutledge, Lincoln: Lucas provided three hits and three RBIs as Lincoln beat Prairie Central 8-3 in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Kane Komnick threw 6 2/3 innings, giving up three hits for the win, while Rutledge finished 3-for-5 with an RBI. Rutledge had three more hits with a triple and two RBIs in Game 2 as the Railers swept with a 10-5 win.   

Wade Naylor, Lutheran: Naylor, the winning pitcher, teamed with Max Yenchko and Myles Yenchko for a no-hitter, and he drove in five runs in Lutheran’s 13-0, five-inning victory over Decatur Lutheran. Naylor swatted a grand slam and had an RBI double while striking out four and walking none in two innings.  

Caden Colwell/Reid Hepperly, New Berlin: Colwell rapped a two-run double in a four-run third inning in New Berlin’s 4-2 win over Okaw Valley. Hepperly threw six innings, striking out seven and walking one as the Pretzels defeated Paris 2-1 in another game.  

Parker Bell, Beardstown: Bell cracked a two-run home run and delivered an RBI double in Beardstown’s 4-1 victory over Liberty. Winning pitcher Carter Ross yielded one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts and three walks in six innings. 

Carter Brooks/Oscar Jones/Jack Turner, Havana: The trio combined on a five-inning perfect game in Havana’s 10-0 victory over Peoria Heights. They collaborated for 11 strikeouts with Brooks, the winning pitcher, fanning six in two innings. Jayden Weaver went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. 

Cale Hatcher, Pleasant Plains: Hatcher threw 6 1/3 shutout innings and Pleasant Plains blanked Rock Island 5-0. He struck out nine, walked zero and gave up just three hits.  

Parker Moore/Easton Malisia, Pana: Moore threw a complete game and provided the offense with three hits, two runs and an RBI in Pana’s 6-0 shutout of Macon Meridian. Moore allowed three hits to go with six strikeouts and five walks. He finished 3-for-4 with three runs as Pana downed Dieterich 14-7 in another game. Malisia delivered two hits with a double and three RBIs.   

Jett Karrick/Tate Karrick, Petersburg PORTA: Jett notched a pair of hits with two runs and an RBI and Tate pitched three hitless innings in relief of PORTA’s 6-2 victory over Concord Triopia.  

Levi German, Nokomis: German went 4-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored to lift Nokomis past Vandalia 12-4 in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Vandalia avoided the sweep with a 7-4 win in Game 2.     

Michael Kaganich, Carlinville: Kaganich went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs as the Cavaliers scored twice in the seventh to defeat Greenfield/Northwestern 6-4 in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Drew Quarton (two runs) and Blake Killam (two RBIs) had three hits apiece. They split the doubleheader after Greenfield defeated Carlinville 10-5 in Game 2.  

Braden Eiskant, James Stevens, Riverton: Eiskant finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, but the Hawks gave up four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and lost to Lena-Winslow 6-5 on a walk-off single. Stevens (2-for-4, four RBIs) drove in the go-ahead run with a double as Riverton scored three runs in the sixth to rally past Litchfield 9-8 in its second game. He pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief and earned the win. 

Laidyn Jones, Ethan Saathoff, Litchfield: Jones hurled 5 2/3 scoreless innings, but Lena-Winslow scored a run in the top of the eighth inning to beat Litchfield 1-0. Jones had three hits against Riverton and Saathoff went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs in Litchfield’s 9-8 defeat to the Hawks.   

Carter Legendre, Staunton: Legendre led the Bulldogs with a pair of hits with a double in an 8-4, extra-inning home loss to Bethalto Civic Memorial. The Eagles scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning.   

Collin Grosenheider, Williamsville: He struck out six in five innings and allowed one run (none earned) on five hits in Williamsville’s 8-3 loss to Tremont. Grosenheider had the only hit as the Bullets were beaten by St. Joseph Ogden 10-0 in five innings of their second game.   

SOFTBALL 

Games of the Day 

Sacred Heart-Griffin 1, Pleasant Plains 0 

Pitcher Kenzie Wieland scored the only run of the game on an RBI single by McKenna Norris in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Cyclones escaped.  

Wieland walked with two outs in the sixth and went to second on a Pleasant Plains error. Norris’ single was the only hit for SHG (10-2) while plating the go-ahead run. Wieland went the distance and gave up just two hits. She struck out 13 and walked three.  

Pleasant Plains’ Anna Nestler was the losing pitcher. The one run was unearned, and she fanned nine and walked five to go with the one allowed hit in six innings. Delaney Murphy and Aspen Kitowski each had a hit for the Cardinals (8-3).  

Carlinville 7, Alton 6 (8 innings) 

Pitcher Hallie Gibson hit a two-run walk-off triple in the bottom of the eighth inning, and the Cavaliers rallied for a win.  

Carlinville tied the game 5-5 with two runs in the sixth on a pair of Alton errors. The game went into extra innings, and Alton took a 6-5 lead with a run in the top of the eighth. 

Gibson threw a complete game, striking out 11, walking four and giving up six hits and six runs (two earned). She finished 3-for-5 and Molly Carriker was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Ashlyn Killam doubled and ended with two hits and two runs. 

The Cavaliers mustered just one hit in a 15-0, four-inning loss to Troy Triad in another game on Saturday. 

Stars of the Day    

Hope Gilmore, Chatham Glenwood: The second baseman went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs as the Titans (11-1) defeated Lincoln-Way Central 15-5. Jemma Lamb added three hits and drove in four runs and Gracyn Lewis, Ryleigh Kiel and Sydney Feld (2-for-4, three RBIs) each homered. Ava Bobb finished 3-for-4 with two runs. 

Lily Woodworth/Hanna Ferriell, Buffalo Tri-City: Woodworth struck out 12, walked zero and allowed six hits as Tri-City defeated Macon Meridian 2-1. Lexi Patton (2-for-2) and Audrey Cooper (1-for-3) both scored on an error to plate Tri-City’s two runs in the third inning. Ferriell locked down Pana in a 13-1 victory in five innings. She had nine strikeouts and went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.      

Khloe Kearns, Beardstown: Kearns threw a one-hit shutout, and the Tigers (10-1) defeated New Berlin 11-0 in four innings. She struck out nine and walked one, and Kylynn Maltby had a solo home run with two walks and two runs. Kearns won Beardstown’s second game, pitching the Tigers to a 4-2 win over Carrollton. She went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.  

Emmah Brown, Rochester: Brown had two hits and scored a run in Rochester’s 5-1 loss to Pekin at the Peoria Notre Dame Invite. The Rockets had just one hit in a 2-0 loss to Dunlap in their second game. Losing pitcher Jaelyn Watts had the hit, and she gave up two earned runs on five hits with six walks and five strikeouts.  

Kylie Teimeyer, Petersburg PORTA: The first baseman concluded 2-for-4 and drove in three runs in a 15-7 loss to Quincy in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Aubrey Vogel doubled twice, drove in two runs and scored two times. Keagan Shanle had two hits and drove in three runs as PORTA lost 15-10 to Quincy in Game 2.   

Jolianna Morrison, Pana: Morrison collected two doubles and two RBIs, but Pana lost to Macon Meridian 19-3 in five innings. Kennedy Bowker scored and had two hits as the Panthers fell to Tri-City 13-1 in their second game.  

Sage Gilbert, Lincoln: Gilbert doubled, tripled and scored Lincoln’s only run in an 8-1 loss to Rantoul.  

GIRLS SOCCER 

Stars of the Day 

Skylar Green, North Mac: Green scored a goal in the 37th minute of the first half and the Panthers defeated Riverton 1-0. Goalie Delaney Patty had five saves.

SOFTBALL 

Game of the Day 

Sacred Heart-Griffin 3, St. Joseph Ogden 0 

Addie Malek’s two-run single in the top of the fifth inning led to a three-run frame as the Cyclones recorded a nonconference win.  

SHG had four hits in the fifth and a walk. Malek, who finished 3-for-4, scored the final run of the inning on an error. Winning pitcher Kenzie Wieland tossed a complete game, striking out 11, walking one and allowing six hits. 

Stars of the Day   

Hannah Louis, Williamsville: The first baseman finished 3-for-3 with seven RBIs in Williamsville’s 19-0, four-inning victory over Clinton. Louis belted a grand slam, had a two-run single and a run-scoring base hit. Winning pitcher Olivia Heigert and reliever Gia Underfanger struck out five apiece and combined on a one-hitter.  

Jaelyn Watts, Rochester: Watts doubled in the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning and the Rockets defeated Alton Marquette 2-1 at the Louisville Slugger Peoria Notre Dame Invite. Isabell Harness singled and scored the winning run.  

Ryleigh Kiel/Sophia Feld, Chatham Glenwood: Kiel doubled twice and drove in a run, and Feld hit a solo home run, but Glenwood (10-1) lost its first game, 7-4 to Marist. 

Carsen Corzine, Taylorville: She fanned 12 batters and scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning of Taylorville’s 6-5 win over Mahomet-Seymour in Game 1 of a doubleheader. At the plate, Corzine went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Grace Rogers had a single and drove in three. Rogers ended 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs as Taylorville completed the sweep with an 8-6 win in Game 2.   

Ella Jenkins/Tori Elvidge, Raymond Lincolnwood: Jenkins and Elvidge drove in three runs apiece in the Lancers’ 12-2, five-inning win over Auburn. Jenkins finished 3-for-4 with a double, and Elvidge cracked a three-run home run and scored four runs with two walks. Elvidge pitched a one-hitter, striking out seven and walking two. 

Ryleigh Cox/Erin Stoops, Springfield High: Cox (1-for-2, two runs) homered and Stoops (2-for-3) doubled and drove in two runs in the Senators’ 18-8, five-inning loss in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Springfield lost the second game 3-0.   

Ava Segarra, Gillespie: Segarra collected three hits with an RBI as Gillespie defeated Vandalia 8-2. Winning pitcher Laci Schuckenbrock threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings in relief with three strikeouts and no walks.  

Jolianna Morrison, Pana: The designated hitter provided three hits with two doubles and four RBIs in Pana’s 11-6 victory over Litchfield. Brianna Mathis finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs.  

Bailey Chappelear, Hillsboro: Chappelear finished 3-for-4 with a double and added three RBIs and two runs scored in Hillsboro’s 16-11 loss to Piasa Southwestern. Mikenna McSperritt supplied three hits with a solo home run.  

Grey Gilbert/Norah Block, Lincoln: The duo had a hit and an RBI apiece in Lincoln’s 13-3 loss to Champaign Central. Gilbert had a triple.  

Maggie Gerard, Jacksonville: Gerard went 2-for-3 and scored a run in Jacksonville’s 5-1 loss to Pittsfield.    

Cloey Dirks, Nokomis: The pitcher homered and was the losing pitcher as Nokomis fell to Altamont 10-2. Dirks did not give up an earned run in five innings while allowing seven hits. Nokomis committed six errors.    

BASEBALL 

Game of the Day 

Chatham Glenwood 3, East Peoria 0 

The Titans scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning, and two pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout.  

Grady Mueller’s RBI double scored pinch runner Robby Nika to give Glenwood a 1-0 lead in the seventh. Andrew Schwartz followed with an RBI single, and Michael Lucas’ groundout plated the third run. 

Mueller won the game in relief, throwing two hitless innings with one strikeout and no walks. Quinten Hale started and gave up just two hits with five strikeouts and three walks in five innings.  

Dylan Huff finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run.   

Stars of the Day 

Will Coady/Drew Ward, Sacred Heart-Griffin: Coady threw a one-hitter and Ward finished 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs in SHG’s 6-1 win over Jacksonville Routt. Coady struck out seven, walked two, and the one run was unearned.  

AJ Charpentier/Ethan Kruzan, Jacksonville: Charpentier went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Kruzan had a 3-for-3 performance with an RBI as Jacksonville defeated Athens 9-0. Cy Kershaw yielded just two hits and threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings for the win.   

Camden Early, North Mac: Early threw six innings as the Panthers defeated Carlinville 4-2. He struck out six, walked three and allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits.   

Brody Shaw, Gillespie: The winning pitcher helped his own cause by going 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI in Gillespie’s 8-1 win over Vandalia. He gave up two hits, one run and struck out seven and walked three. Braden Reich allowed one hit and pitched four scoreless innings with five strikeouts and three walks in relief. 

Ethan Saathoff/Titan Hires, Litchfield/Mount Olive: Saathoff fanned 11 batters and limited Pana to two hits and one run in 6 1/3 innings in the Panthers’ 3-1 victory over Pana. Hires went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Mathew Bywater was 3-for-3 with a double and a run. 

Lucas McCoy/Jett Karrick, Petersburg PORTA: McCoy, the winning pitcher, and Karrick combined for 13 strikeouts while allowing just three hits and no earned runs in PORTA’s 7-1 win over Lena-Winslow. McCoy threw four innings and Karrick hurled three.   

Grady Rutledge, Lincoln: He finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and was the losing pitcher in Lincoln’s 9-3 loss to Bartonville Limestone.   

Chase Roberts, Mount Pulaski: The catcher had a pair of hits with an RBI and a run in the Hilltoppers’ 5-3 loss to Glen Carbon Father McGivney.  

Matthew Overby, Staunton: Overby had an RBI double in Staunton’s 5-1 loss to Greenville.  

Ian Behl, Pleasant Plains: The third baseman delivered the walk-off RBI single and the Cardinals rallied from a three-run deficit in the seventh inning in a 3-2 victory over Mount Pulaski. Owen Johnson provided the first RBI when he was hit by a pitch before Drew Green hit a game-tying sacrifice fly. Max Johnson struck out nine over 5 2/3 innings, while Kreston Shultz got the win with one hit and one walk allowed in 1 1/3 innings.

Thursday, April 9 

SOFTBALL 

Game of the Day 

Pawnee 5, Raymond Lincolnwood 3 

Senior third baseman Adalyn Boblitt cranked out the go-ahead 2-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning to complete an MSM Conference comeback win.  

Pawnee (7-2) trailed until senior shortstop Ava Rodriguez’s game-tying RBI single in the sixth. Boblitt then jumped ahead against Lincolnwood pitcher Tori Elvidge to set up a double to left field. Boblitt finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and three RBIs. Senior outfielder Mae McTaggart had two hits and two runs. Rodriguez scored twice on a hit and walk. 

“Coach (Rob Walters) gave me the green light on the 3-0, but I didn’t love it, so I waited for the right pitch. I found it and I made sure to drive that ball,” Boblitt said. 

Senior pitcher Emma Selhime picked up the win in a complete game. She struck out 10 and gave up two earned runs on five hits and one walk. Elvidge tallied eight strikeouts in the loss.

Stars of the Day 

Grace Burris, Staunton: She struck out 12 and allowed no runs on three hits and no walks as Staunton beat Mulberry Grove 16-0 in five innings. Burris also homered, was walked twice and drove in two runs. Lainey Weller and Mallory Lucykow combined for seven RBIs.  

Hannah Louis, Williamsville: Louis hit two homers and doubled to provide the Bullets with six RBIs as Williamsville beat Manito Midwest Central 14-2 in six innings. Elle Greer was 2-for-3 with a double, a homer and three RBIs.  

Megan Bright, Petersburg PORTA: The Bluejays’ freshman went 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs in a 24-1, four-inning win over Riverton. Bella Kelton, also a freshman, senior Aubrey Vogel and Kylie Teimeyer, also a senior, all had three RBIs. PORTA scored 16 runs in the third inning after leading 5-0. Sophomore Mackenzie Miller fanned five and allowed no earned runs on three hits in all four innings.  

Delaina Manuel, Pleasant Plains: The Cardinals’ leadoff hitter went 4-for-6 with an RBI and four runs scored to help Plains beat Auburn 16-3. The Cardinals, leading 8-3, put the game out of reach with an eight-run seventh inning. Aspen Kitowski went 2-for-4 with three RBIs while Delaney Murphy finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs.  

Carsen Corzine, Taylorville: The Tornadoes’ pitcher starred with the bat by recording a 3-for-4 outing with five RBIs as Taylorville routed Decatur MacArthur 20-1 in four innings. Teammate Peyton DeMichael was walked three times, had an RBI and scored four runs. Corzine struck out nine and allowed one unearned run on two hits and one walk.  

Italee Ford/Gabby Sorrell, Rushville-Industry: On a day Ford struggled in the pitcher’s circle, her bat helped her, and the Rockets, pull out a win. Ford was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Sorrell led the Rockets with three RBIs on two hits. Ford allowed six runs — four earned — on 11 hits and three walks. She struck out three.  

Jaci Derringer, Athens: The Warriors’ catcher hit a solo home run and finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs in Athens’ 9-3 win over Maroa-Forsyth. Teammate Emma Crispen had three hits while Aubrey Crispen was 2-for-3.  

Paxton Reid, Gillespie: The Miners’ senior struck out six in a three-hit complete-game shutout as Gillespie beat Bethalto Civic Memorial 4-0. Reid walked one batter. Sadie Sholtis was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Miners.  

Hanna Ferriell, Buffalo Tri-City: Not only did she throw a five-inning no-hitter, but she was 3-for-3 with a double and five RBIs as Tri-City beat Carlinville 10-0 in five innings. Ferriell walked just two and struck out five in the shutout. Tiffany Farley went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.  

Skylar Meats, Auburn: She went 4-for-4 with three RBIs in Auburn’s 16-3 loss to Pleasant Plains.  

Ella Schaake, Hillsboro: She singled and had the Hiltoppers’ lone RBI in a 10-3 loss to Jerseyville. 

BASEBALL 

Stars of the Day 

Hudson Wort/Gavin Greer, Pawnee: Wort hit a two-run double in the bottom of Pawnee’s seven-run third inning and Pawnee went on to beat Morrisonville 8-2. Greer, who also had a double and a sacrifice bunt, worked six innings on the mound for the win. He struck out seven and allowed two runs — one earned — on three hits and two walks.  

Levi Hoagland/Brody Landon, Petersburg PORTA: Hoagland struck out nine in a four-hit scoreless complete game and walked just one as PORTA beat Riverton 7-0. Hoagland also doubled as part of his two-hit, two-RBI outing. Landon had two RBIs and finished 2-for-3 at the plate, while Jett Karrick was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a pair of runs scored.  

Wade Naylor, Lutheran: He homered and finished 2-for-2 with four RBIs and three runs scored to help the Crusaders beat Buffalo Tri-City 12-2 in five innings.  

Andrew Potthoff, Pleasant Plains: The Cardinals’ No. 9 hitter was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, four RBIs and two runs scored as Plains beat Auburn 13-3. Landon Maisenbacher and Ian Behl both had three hits apiece for the Cardinals. 

Reid Hepperly/Caden Colwell/Carson Dodd, New Berlin: All three Pretzels had two hits and two RBIs as New Berlin topped Stanford Olympia 16-7.  

Brady Turner, Jacksonville Routt: With two outs in the top of the fourth inning, Turner singled to left field to score teammate Bryson Mossman in the Rockets’ 6-5 win over Hardin Calhoun. That RBI gave Routt (8-4 overall) a 6-2 cushion before Calhoun scored once in the bottom of the fourth and two in the fifth. Turner had two RBIs.  

Collin Grosenheider, Williamsville: The Bullets’ leadoff hitter went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored in Williamsville’s 10-0 five-inning win over Mason City Illini Central. Teammate Brenton Trickey went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.  

Aiden Pratt, Havana: The Ducks’ No. 8 hitter went 2-for-3, including a run-scoring double, and had two RBIs as Havana doubled up Lewistown LVC 6-3.  

Brylan Miller, Pana: The Panthers’ pitcher tripled in a pair of runs and drew a walk in Pana’s 17-1 four-inning win over Brownstown. Miller worked three innings, allowed one hit and no runs and struck out five. Dane Epley drove in three runs for the Panthers.  

Caden Wyler, Mount Pulaski: Wyler hit a two-run single in the bottom of the first to give the Hilltoppers a 3-0 lead en route to Mount Pulaski beating Delavan 7-1. Keoni Charron and Preston Cowan, along with Wyler, all had two hits apiece.  

Colton Puccetti, Edinburg: The Wildcats’ pitcher drove in three runs and was walked five times as Edinburg and Bunker Hill finished in a 13-13 tie.  

Brody Flowers/Trey Boston, Auburn: Boston and Flowers had three hits apiece to account for all but two of the Trojans’ hits in a 13-3 loss to Pleasant Plains.  

Corbin Unthank, Buffalo Tri-City: He hit a two-run, two-out, bases-loaded single in the top of the third inning to account for the Tornadoes’ only runs in a 12-2 five-inning loss to Lutheran. 

Kannon Jonas, Nokomis: The center fielder doubled twice, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice in Nokomis’ 13-8 loss to Greenville.  

GIRLS SOCCER 

Stars of the Day 

Kate Gross, Rochester: The junior scored the lone goal on an assist from Charli Lowder in a 1-0 win over Williamsville.  

Addi Maddox, Springfield High: The sophomore summoned four goals, while Kamryn Hoffman had two in a 6-0 win over Sacred Heart-Griffin. 

Ellen Wiker, Athens: Wiker delivered two goals in a 5-0 win over Riverton. Izzy Henning also scored. 

Wednesday, April 8 

BASEBALL 

Games of the Day 

Rochester 3, Sacred Heart-Griffin 2 

Ajay Runkel took matters in his own hands as his solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning proved decisive in the Rockets’ Central State Eight Conference win.  

Runkel stepped into the batter’s box and bashed a one-out pitch from Will Pennell over the right-field fence for a 3-2 lead.  

Runkel then finished with three strikeouts in the seventh for the complete-game victory. He allowed just two runs on eight hits and one walk. He struck out five.  

Frank Stefano III doubled and had an RBI for the Rockets.  

SHG’s Carson Butler homered, went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored to lead the Cyclones’ offense. He also stole a base.  

SHG, last year’s Class 2A state champion, fell to 9-3 overall and 2-2 in the CS8. Rochester improved to 4-3 (3-1 CS8).  

New Berlin 5, Springfield High 4 

With two outs and the bases loaded, Nolan Robinson doubled to center field in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Pretzels a walk-off nonconference win.  

Carson Dodd reached on a one-out error before Reid Hepperly doubled to give the Pretzels runners at second and third trailing Springfield High 4-3. With two outs, Michael Callahan was intentionally walked before Robinson blasted a 2-0 count pitch to center to score Dodd and Hepperly for the win.  

Hepperly and Callahan both had two hits apiece while Robinson and Evan Teel each had a pair of RBIs. Callahan, Robinson and Hepperly all doubled.  

Mason Heironimus got the win with a scoreless inning pitched.  

Springfield High led 4-1 after scoring two runs in the top of the sixth. New Berlin scored two in the bottom of the sixth and seventh.  

Brody Scheffler led the SHS offense with two hits, including a double, and an RBI.  

Stars of the Day 

Aiden Saracco, Staunton: The Bulldogs’ starting pitcher gave up two runs — none earned — on four hits and one walk while striking out seven in six innings as Staunton beat Carlinville 10-2. He also went 2-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Luke Moore (two RBIs) and Kaiden Linkeman (one RBI) both had two hits with a double.  

Owen Comstock, Lincoln: The Railsplitters’ cleanup hitter went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBIs, a stolen base and a run scored as Lincoln downed Lanphier 9-1. Karson Komnick and Tate Aue both pitched three innings and combined for five strikeouts against three hits, one run and two walks.  

Bryson Mossman, Jacksonville Routt: The State Journal-Register’s Small School Boys Basketball Player of the Year went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs, four runs scored and two stolen bases as Routt beat Piasa Southwestern 19-6 in six innings. Brady Turner and Talon Thompson each had four RBIs for the Rockets with Thompson collecting three doubles and Turner hitting a homer.  

Dex Buttry/Tate Austwick, Williamsville: Buttry went 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in Williamsville’s 12-8 nonconference win over Clinton. Austwick went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs. Brenton Trickey had two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Bullets.  

Colten Knoedler, Chatham Glenwood: The Titans’ catcher went 2-for-2 with a double, a home run and three RBIs as Glenwood downed Decatur MacArthur 11-1 in five innings. Landon Leach pitched five innings and allowed one run on two hits with five strikeouts for the victory.  

Carter Ross, Beardstown: He had an RBI groundout to snap a tie in the top of the sixth as Beardstown beat Pittsfield 5-3. Ross had two RBIs without a hit.

Joe Reif, Jacksonville: He had two hits and a stolen base in the Crimsons’ 17-1 four-inning loss to Normal U-High.  

Paxton Walch/Blake Killam, Carlinville: They each had a pair of hits to account for four of the Cavaliers’ five hits, in a 10-2 loss to Staunton. Killam doubled twice.  

Titan Hires, Litchfield: His bases-loaded single to left field drove in a run before Laidyn Jones hit into a two-run scoring error in the Purple Panthers’ three-run first inning before Jerseyville outscored Litchfield 9-1 the rest of the way for a 9-4 Jersey win.  

Carson Hailstone, Gillespie: Hailstone went 4-for-5 with three RBIs in the Miners’ 11-7 nonconference loss to Hardin Calhoun.  

Landon Maisenbacher, Pleasant Plains: He had two of Pleasant Plains’ three hits, including a double, in an 8-0 loss to St. Joseph-Ogden.  

SOFTBALL 

Game of the Day 

Sacred Heart-Griffin 5, Rochester 4 

Lucy Wegner is not somebody to trifle with.  

The junior infielder drilled the game-tying two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning before uncorking the walk-off RBI single in the seventh to complete a Central State Eight Conference comeback victory.  

“All offseason she’s working hard, working on her swing and working on her game,” SHG coach Scott Stotlar said. “The ball finds the barrel with her a lot. She’s a very powerful kid.” 

Rochester (11-3, 1-2 CS8) intentionally walked junior standout Kenzie Wieland to load the bases with one out before Wegner’s final heroics.  

Wieland provided two doubles and two RBIs, while earning the win in the circle. She struck out nine with three earned runs allowed on six hits and three walks.  

McKenna Norris added two hits for SHG, which improved to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in the league. 

Wieland’s second RBI double shaved the deficit 4-2 in the sixth before Wegner launched her second home run of the season over the left field fence. 

“We need a big hitter behind her (Wieland) to back her up, so they’ll think twice about walking her and getting the bases loaded again,” Stotlar said. “She’s good for that spot.” 

Rochester’s Brooklyn Thompson manufactured two doubles, while Payton Sitko also had two hits. Jaelyn Watts struck out 12 over six innings with four earned runs allowed on five hits and one walk.

Elly Painter, Havana: She hit a two-run homer to cap the Ducks’ six-run fifth inning as Havana beat Abingdon 6-0. Ava Kramer also had two RBIs for the Ducks.  

Peyton DeMichael, Taylorville: The hurler gave up two runs — none earned — on four hits and no walks, to go with her three strikeouts, as Taylorville beat Macon Meridian 3-2. DeMichael also had three hits, the Tornadoes’ No. 8 hitter Hope Kietzman doubled, tripled and drove in a run while Carsen Corzine and Olivia Gray each had a pair of hits.  

Ava Rodriguez, Pawnee: Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a triple and four runs driven in as Pawnee defeated New Berlin 13-5. Emma Selhime had three RBIs and Ashlyne Cobb drive in a pair.  

Maylee Payne, Springfield High: She went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and teammate Erin Stoops was 2-for-4 with three RBIs as Springfield High beat Decatur Eisenhower 15-0 in four innings. Payne also allowed just two hits in four scoreless innings for the win. 

Alyvia Streb, Chatham Glenwood: She struck out 11 and allowed just two hits as Glenwood beat Decatur MacArthur 17-0 in four innings. Kyleigh Donnelly homered for the Titans. 

Addi Jones/Skylar Meats, Auburn: Each player had a pair of hits as Auburn beat Carlinville 3-2 on six hits. Emmie Womble struck out eight in a complete-game victory.  

Hallie Gibson, Carlinville: She fanned 17 batters and gave up three unearned runs on six hits and one walk in the Cavaliers’ 3-2 loss to Auburn.  

GIRLS SOCCER 

Stars of the Day 

Bailey Leach, Pleasant Plains: The Cardinals’ senior recorded a hat trick in Plains’ 9-0 win over Riverton. Callie Wagner put Plains on top with a goal in the first minute before Leach put three goals away within the next eight minutes. Leach now holds a school record with 132 career goals. Isabella Langiano, Aurora Fraase and Caroline Willenborg also scored for the Cardinals (Langiano and Willenborg both scored twice).

BASEBALL 

Games of the Day 

Chatham Glenwood 9, Jacksonville 2 

The Titans scored eight runs in the top of the fourth inning and had a stellar outing on the mound in a Central State Eight Conference game at the Future Champions Sports Complex. 

Glenwood (7-2) strung together seven of its nine hits in the fourth. Tucker Murphy gave the Titans a 1-0 lead with an RBI single, and winning pitcher Dylan Huff followed with a base hit that scored two runs. Grady Mueller, Dayton Travis and Michael Lucas added RBI singles for a 6-0 lead, and Travis and Lucas then scored on a pair of wild pitches. Mueller added an RBI single in the fifth.   

Huff allowed just three hits in five scoreless innings, striking out five and walking four. Owen Jones threw the final two innings, giving up two runs (none earned) on two hits with two strikeouts and no walks.  

Nolan Peters had a hit and scored a run for Jacksonville (7-4). 

Lincoln 2, Springfield High 1 

The Railsplitters scored two runs in the top of the first inning and starting pitcher Carson Fuiten made it stand in a complete game victory.  

Fuiten outdueled Springfield starter Brody Scheffler, who struck out 17 batters, walked one and yielded just two hits and two runs (one earned). Fuiten fanned eight, walked two and gave up six hits and one earned run. 

Lincoln (6-5) scored its two runs when Grady Rutledge singled with one out and stole second. He scored after Austin Lucas hit a grounder to third base and reached on a Springfield error. Lucas went to second on the error and got to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a single by Owen Comstock. 

The Senators (4-5) threatened to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh when Wade Snyder walked to begin the inning. With two outs, Spencer Wienecke singled to put runners on first and second. Jacob Scheffler then doubled, scoring Snyder, but Wienecke was thrown out trying to score to end the game.  

Williamsville 9, Riverton 8 

Wyatt Patton stole home and the Bullets scored twice with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a walk-off win.  

Tate Austwick tied the game 8-8 with an RBI single that scored Tristan Pickford, who walked and went to second on a single by Patton and stole third. 

Williamsville (5-4) led 7-2 after five innings until Riverton scored three in the sixth and took an 8-7 lead with three runs in the top of the seventh. The Hawks scored two runs on an error and a wild pitch.  

Collin Grosenheider collected two hits and scored three runs for Williamsville. Braden Eiskant finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs for Riverton (2-8). 

Stars of the Day 

Caleb Cox/AJ Ozier, Lutheran: Cox went 3-for-4 with three runs and a two-run double and Ozier pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts and no walks in Lutheran’s 19-5, five-inning win over Buffalo Tri-City. Ozier had a two-run homer, and Myles Yenchko collected two hits and three RBIs. 

Carter Cappellin, Taylorville: The pitcher delivered a no-hitter as Taylorville defeated Mahomet-Seymour 8-0. Cappellin threw 101 pitches, striking out six and walking five. Lucas Gerlick had a hit, scored twice, and received one of Taylorville’s 13 walks.      

Levi Hoagland, Petersburg PORTA: Hoagland singled in the go-ahead run in a three-run sixth inning and PORTA rallied for a 6-5 win over Maroa-Forsyth. He finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and winning pitcher Jett Karrick threw two scoreless innings in relief, striking out four and walking none. 

Matt Kapinus/Michael Callahan, New Berlin: The pitching duo combined on a five-inning no-hitter as the Pretzels defeated Illini Central/Hartem 10-0. Kapinus threw three innings, and Callahan hurled two as they combined for 10 strikeouts and four walks. Cam Hart finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs.  

Grayson Dodd, Pleasant Plains: Dodd was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, three runs scored and two walks as Pleasant Plains defeated Stanford Olympia 14-6. Max Johnson walked three times and had a two-run double.  

Brenton Slusser, Rochester: The third baseman had a couple of hits and drove in four runs to lead the Rockets past Lanphier 14-0 in five innings. Winning pitcher Ben Stalets allowed three hits in three scoreless innings with five strikeouts and no walks.   

Luke Schuckenbrock/Braden Reich, Gillespie: Schuckenbrock hurled a three-hitter with five strikeouts and three walks, and Reich had a pair of hits with two runs in Gillespie’s 9-1 victory over Litchfield. Carson Hailstone and Dawson Lancaster both had a hit and two RBIs each.  

Brodey VanHooser, Morrisonville/Lincolnwood: The pitcher threw 6 1/3 innings and knocked in two runs with a double as the Mohawks defeated Pawnee 6-5. Mason Tryon finished 2-for-3 with a double, and Cody Ganther got the final two outs in the seventh in a relief outing.  

Preston Cowan, Mount Pulaski: Cowan finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs as Mount Pulaski defeated Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 6-4. Pitcher Carter Clark tossed three scoreless innings with four strikeouts, while allowing one walk and one hit. 

Kannon Jonas/Bryce Gillock, Nokomis: Jonas went 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI and Gillock threw a one-hitter with six strikeouts and one walk in Nokomis’ 10-0, five-inning victory over Greenfield/Northwestern. Nolan Herpstreith finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs.  

Gavin Greer, Pawnee: The shortstop had three hits and scored a run in Pawnee’s 6-5 loss to Morrisonville/Lincolnwood.  

Caleb Hobrock, Beardstown: Hobrock delivered a two-run double in the Tigers’ three-run sixth inning, but the rally fell short in a 4-3 loss to Hamilton/Warsaw. 

Carter Legendre, Staunton: The first baseman doubled and walked, but the Bulldogs could not muster up a run in a 2-0 loss to Carrollton. 

SOFTBALL 

Stars of the Day 

Norah Block, Lincoln: The pitcher ushered three hits and four RBIs in a 19-4 win over Springfield High. Grey Gilbert had two triples. Block struck out nine over four innings. 

Mackenzie Miller, Petersburg PORTA: The pitcher hit the go-ahead RBI single in the fifth inning en route to a 2-1 win over Maroa-Forsyth. Miller and Aubrey Vogel each had two hits and an RBI. Miller struck out five and gave up one unearned run on five hits and one walk in a complete game. 

Adalyn Boblitt, Pawnee: The third baseman stole home for the go-ahead run in the eighth inning for a 5-4 win over Raymond Lincolnwood. Haley Maretti struck out seven over five innings. She gave up three earned runs on three hits and six walks. Emma Selhime picked up the win with no hits allowed and three strikeouts over the final three innings. 

Tori Elvidge, Raymond Lincolnwood: The pitcher suffered the loss to Pawnee despite 16 strikeouts over eight innings. She gave up three earned runs on five hits and five walks. 

Preslie Buckmaster, Athens: The shortstop mustered two triples and finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs in an 11-0 win over Auburn. Isabel Ingram contributed two doubles. 

Khloe Kearns, Beardstown: The pitcher finished 4-for-5 with three RBIs and a run in a 14-9 win over Greenfield/Northwestern. She also had 16 strikeouts over seven innings. She gave up six earned runs on seven hits and eight walks.  

Paxton Reid, Gillespie: The pitcher homered and doubled and finished with three RBIs in a 15-0 win over Litchfield. She struck out six and gave up three hits over four innings. Ava Rakers also homered.  

Kinleigh Peters, Williamsville: The first baseman finished 4-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs in a 17-1 win over Riverton. Alyx Westlake doubled and tripled and finished with four RBIs. 

GIRLS SOCCER

Raelyn Brammer, Pleasant Plains: The senior scored a hat trick in a 12-0 win over Stanford Olympia. Callie Wagner, Bailey Leach and Ro Fraase had two goals apiece.

Brooklyn Lowder, Rochester: The senior scored on an Alaina Stock assists in a 1-0 win over Sacred Heart-Griffin.

Savanna Siglock, Carlinville: The goalkeeper had five saves in a 3-0 win over North Mac. Brinniyah Snodgrass had two goals, while Berlynn Eades had another. Blakely Swan had two assists.

Monday, April 6 

SOFTBALL 

Game of the Day 

Sacred Heart-Griffin 4, Quincy Notre Dame 3 

Maggie Wichmann lined a two-run single to right field, and the Cyclones rallied with four runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull out a nonconference win. 

SHG (7-2) trailed 3-0 entering its last at bat and Stella Clow walked with one out. Keller then singled and Addie Malek’s RBI double made the score 3-1. Sammie Bergschneider drew her third walk, and Keller scored on a passed ball. Wichmann’s single gave the Cyclones a one-run lead after Kenzie Wieland walked, and Lucy Wegner struck out with two outs.  

Wieland, the winning pitcher, hit a QND batter in the seventh with one out before ending the game with a strikeout. She went the distance, striking out nine, walking two and giving up three hits and three runs – two earned. Wieland and Wichmann finished with two hits apiece.  

QND scored a run each in the first, second and sixth innings.  

Stars of the Day 

Kendall Edmonson/Jaelyn Watts, Rochester: Edmonson manufactured a 3-for-4 performance with two doubles and five RBIs in Rochester’s 13-1, five-inning victory over Tolono Unity. Watts (5-0), the winning pitcher, threw a one-hitter with nine strikeouts and three walks. Emmah Brown (2-for-4) drove in two and Peyton Purves hit a solo home run for Rochester (11-2).  

Carsen Corzine, Taylorville: Corzine fanned 10, walked one and threw a one-hitter as Taylorville defeated North Mac 20-0 in four innings. She also doubled, homered, and finished with four RBIs. Nevaeh Wiley (2-for-3, five RBIs) and Grace Rogers (2-for-4, three runs, three RBIs) each hit a home run.  

Jaci Derringer/Kenzie Szoke, Athens: Derringer (2-for-3, two runs) homered and finished with four RBIs and Szoke went 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored in Athens’ 14-4, five-inning win over Manito Midwest Central. Aubrey Crispen added two hits, three runs and two RBIs.  

Paxton Reid, Gillespie: Reid tossed a three-hit shutout, doubled, homered and finished with four RBIs in a 15-0, four-inning win over Raymond Lincolnwood. She struck out five and walked none. Ava Parish and Amari Vickery combined for four hits and five RBIs. 

Alexis Mielke, Litchfield: The winning pitcher struck out eight and walked none in Litchfield’s 15-5, five-inning win over Alton Marquette. She had two hits with a double and drove in three runs. 

Mae McTaggart, Pawnee: The centerfielder singled and scored twice in Pawnee’s 6-4 victory over Carlinville. Reagan Clarke, Adalyn Boblitt and Ashlyne Cobb each had an RBI. 

Italee Ford, Rushville-Industry: Ford finished 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs, and she earned the win, pitching four relief innings of the Rockets’ 8-6 victory over Havana. Elliot Hood and Devin Vogler combined for four hits, four runs and two RBIs. 

Ava Quigley/Khloe Kearns, Beardstown: Quigley drove in the Tigers’ only run with a sacrifice, but Beardstown (7-1) lost its first game, 2-1 to Carthage Illini West. Kearns was the tough-luck losing pitcher as she struck out 12, walked one and gave up just three hits and two runs (one earned).  

Hallie Gibson, Carlinville: She struck out 12 and allowed just one hit on one earned run in a 6-4 loss to Pawnee. Offensively, Gibson had a hit and walked three times. 

Peyton Chappelear, Hillsboro: The first baseman had an RBI double, and Rylee Rogers singled and scored a run in Hillsboro’s 7-2 win over Breese Mater Dei. 

Kennedy Bowker, Pana: Bowker went 2-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs in Pana’s 14-11 loss to Maroa-Forsyth.   

BASEBALL 

Games of the Day 

New Berlin 10, Pawnee 9 

The Pretzels took a 10-0 lead with eight runs in the bottom of the third inning and held off a comeback from Pawnee. 

Winning pitcher Reid Hepperlystarted for New Berlin, throwing four hitless innings with seven strikeouts and one walk. He finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Carson Dodd went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Evan Teel singled and drove in two.  

Pawnee plated three runs apiece in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings before its comeback fell short. In relief, Dodd threw one inning and got out of a jam in the seventh.  

Lucas Seiz finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Carson Contreras added two hits and scored twice with a run for Pawnee.  

Nokomis 4, Carlinville 3 

Dylan Yeske drove in Lane Herpstreith with a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.  

Nokomis scored a run in the first and Levi German (2-for-3) doubled in a run in the third for a 2-0 lead. Nokomis led 3-0 after five innings, and Kannon Jonas pitched two-thirds of an inning for the win. German threw five scoreless innings, allowing three hits with six strikeouts and two walks before giving way to Izaak Doyen, who gave up four hits and three runs in 1 1/3 innings. 

Carlinville scored a run in the sixth and tied the game with two runs in the top of the seventh when Paxton Walch scored on a passed ball and Blake Killam drove in a run on a groundout.  

Brady Turner, Jacksonville Routt: Turner struck out a whopping 16 batters with one walk and threw a two-hit shutout in the Rockets’ 13-0 victory over Mount Sterling Brown County. Talon Thompson, Bryson Mossman and Samuel Long combined for seven hits, seven RBIs and five runs.    

Owen Alderman/Vincent Moscardelli, Athens: Alderman had two hits with a double and an RBI as Athens beat Glasford Illini Bluffs 6-1. Moscardelli, the winning pitcher, threw 4 1/3 innings and allowed one hit, no runs with six walks and four strikeouts.   

Tucker Dennis, Auburn: The first baseman went 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs to carry Auburn past Buffalo Tri-City 13-3 in six innings. Carter Smith, Peyton Cambell and Trey Boston combined for six hits, seven runs and two RBIs. 

Luke Martin, Mount Pulaski: Martin threw a gem, striking out 10, walking one and allowing just one hit in the Hilltoppers’ 10-0 victory over North Mac in five innings. He added two hits with a double and three RBIs, and teammate Aaron Volle produced a two-run double and finished with three RBIs. 

Rylan Reimolds, Rushville-Industry: Riemolds fanned eight, walked zero and hurled a four-hit shutout in a 6-0, five-inning win over Astoria South Fulton. Reimolds (2-for-3, RBI) doubled, and Bradley Hollingsworth supplied a three-run double.   

Carter Brooks, Havana: Brooks struck out five, walked zero and yielded two hits in five innings of a 10-0 victory over Manito Midwest Central. Brooks had a hit with two RBIs, Caleb McDaniel (two RBIs) tripled, and Jayden Weaver (2-for-4) doubled and drove in a run. 

Eli Zaidi/Chase Spangler, Hillsboro: Spangler and Zaidi combined for four hits and two RBIs in the Hiltoppers’ 7-5 victory over Raymond Lincolnwood/Morrisonville. Winning pitcher Liam Blackburn struck out five and walked zero in a complete game outing.   

Cash O’Connell, Edinburg: O’Connell went 3-for-4 with two RBIs as Edinburg lost to Moweaqua Central A&M 13-6. Noah Clark collected three hits and scored twice. 

Joe Reif, Jacksonville: Reif provided two hits and an RBI in Jacksonville’s 8-5 loss to Piasa Southwestern. Talan Harney had a hit and two RBIs. 

Toby Basden, Southeast: Basden walked and scored a run in Southeast’s 12-2, five-inning loss at Normal U-High. 

Kaiden Linkeman, Staunton: Linkeman gave Staunton a 4-0 lead in the third inning with a two-run double before Hardin Calhoun rallied to beat the Bulldogs 6-4.    

Jax Czaikowski, Pana: The catcher doubled and drove in a run in Pana’s 5-2 loss to Maroa-Forsyth. 

BOYS TENNIS 

Aarav Patel, Chatham Glenwood: Patel won his No. 1 singles match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over SHG’s Adam Wheeling as the Titans beat the Cyclones 9-0 in a dual meet. Patel teamed with Talha Arshad and the tandem defeated Wheeling and Smith 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles match.   

GIRLS SOCCER 

Brooklynn Lowder, Rochester: Lowder netted three goals and Rochester defeated Southeast 8-0. Mary Jane Keller (two assists) and Kate Gross (one assist) scored twice.
