SPRINGFIELD, IL – Illinois State Police officials have released dashcam footage from an April crash in which a State Trooper fatally struck a pedestrian in Springfield.
Charles Henderson, 45, was hit near the intersection of South Sixth Street and Linton Avenue on the far south side of Springfield around 2:30 a.m. on April 25 when he was hit by an ISP Trooper’s vehicle.
The video shows Henderson in dark clothing bending over in the road when he was hit by the trooper’s vehicle, who was traveling southbound on South Sixth Street.
The graphic footage shows the trooper pulling over after hitting Henderson.
Henderson was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries, Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon said in a news release two days after the crash.
Allmon said Henderson died from multiple blunt force injuries from being hit by the car.
Illinois State Police have not released the name of the trooper who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash. ISP also said officers had encountered Henderson on the street earlier in the night and “conveyed he needed to stay out of the street.”
ISP said Henderson’s family reviewed the dashcam footage before it was released to the public.
