Border control should be a non-partisan issue | Opinion

These past weeks we have seen rioting throughout our country that serves to destabilize our justice system and create an anti-law enforcement movement similar to what we saw in 2020 and 2021.

Mob rule of our streets has become the norm as many politicians caved to lawlessness and anarchy.

The protesters currently are anti-ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. ICE officers are charged with the task of rounding up illegal immigrants who are either wanted for crimes in their home country or here in the United States. Here in Illinois, there is a law prohibiting local law enforcement from cooperating with ICE.

Illinois courts and law enforcement are not allowed to hand over those in their custody who are wanted on an ICE detainer. They let them go out onto the streets and then ICE has to find them in their homes and neighborhoods creating a much less controlled and more dangerous environment for both the immigrant and the ICE officers.

Politicians, entirely Democratic, have decided to make this a partisan issue by demonizing ICE officers, resulting in the attacks that took place on those officers in Los Angeles. Hopefully the participants in those attacks will face federal charges for attacking federal law enforcement officers including FBI agents.

Hakim Jeffries, the Democratic minority leader in the U.S. House of Representatives, announced that he wanted all ICE officers “doxed.” Doxed means he wants to expose their identities, which could subject them and their families to harm.

Keep in mind that these ICE officers are arresting dangerous criminals who would love to get the identities of these officers. In Mexico, their officers are always wearing masks to cover their identity so that the cartels don’t kill them and their families.

Our own Gov. JB Pritzker fans the flames with this quote: “Never before in my life have I called for mass activism — but this is the moment. Take to the streets, protest, show up at town halls, jam the phone lines in Congress … and afford not a moment of peace to any elected representatives who are aiding and abetting Musk and Trump’s illegal power grab.”

Illegal border crossings exceeded 11 million during the Biden years. Under the 2025 Trump administration, the numbers are expected to be down 93%.

In his recent testimony before Congress on Illinois’ Sanctuary State laws, Pritzker referred to the millions of illegal migrants as “asylum” seekers.

The party line is to call those who illegally entered our country as “legal” because of the asylum process. There is a legal way to apply for asylum and these laws have worked for many decades.

Democrats claim they want “due process” for all 11 million illegal immigrants, but while the “zone” was flooded and the border overwhelmed those who did get caught were awarded court cases set for 8 or 9 years from now. What kind of due process is that?

Keep in mind that illegal immigrants are counted in the Census every ten years and Congress is apportioned by population. Each Congressional District has about 800,000 people. The additional illegal immigrants potentially give Democrats anywhere from 8-12 Congressman who think like they do.

There are over 3 million pending asylum cases and an estimated 2 million “gotaways” who we have no idea who they are and they are not in the system.

Not even half of asylum seekers are granted asylum and amongst those more recent asylum seekers it is estimated that 90% of them will be told to leave because they do not meet the criteria for asylum.

When you watch the politicians defend illegal immigration, defend violent protests and try to tell us that the illegals who crashed our border are more peaceful than our own people, keep in mind that of 400 protesters arrested in LA 330 were here illegally, 157 were arrested for assault and obstruction and one, so far, was arrested for the attempted murder of a police officer.

The sanctuary state governors — Pritzker of Illinois, Hochul of New York and Walz of Minnesota — testified before Congress, and each iterated the party line about Congress failing to enact a comprehensive immigration law.

Democrats have had full control over Congress twice in the past decade and a half and they never passed legislation. They blamed the surrender at our border on the need for a law but that lie was shattered when the first three months of the current administration saw a 95% drop in border crossings.

Border control should be a non-partisan issue, and every politician should be held accountable.

“We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked, and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently and lawfully to become immigrants in this country.”

This quote is not from the current occupant of the White House but rather President Barrack Obama known as the “deporter in Chief” because he deported 3 million people during his presidency.
