Bears rookie Ozzy Trapilo said learning left tackle easier than right tackle

Chicago Bears offensive lineman Ozzy Trapilo finds himself positioned to make an immediate impact as a rookie as he’s a contender for the left tackle job.

Trapilo, selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL draft, started at right tackle in his final two years at Boston College. But he also started 10 games at left tackle, which gives him some experience as he competes with incumbent starter Braxton Jones and second-year pro Kiran Amegadjie.

While Trapilo has played mostly right tackle in his career, he said learning a new playbook and how to play left tackle was actually easier for him than right tackle.

“I don’t go flow state like I do if I were to go on the right side,” Trapilo said. “I kind of just get in those habits, whatever I’ve been taught for so long,” he said. “So on that foreign side, a little foreign, you’re able to really hone in on the minor differences that these coaches want to see. So there’s definitely benefits in that.”

With Jones sidelined as he recovers from a fractured fibula, the Bears have been rotating Trapilo and Amegadjie at left tackle with the starting offense. From reports of media in attendance, Trapilo has impressed in his time with the first team, albeit without pads.

Jones is expected to be limited to start training camp, so Trapilo will have more opportunities to prove himself to this coaching staff — especially once the pads come on.
