One person was killed and two others injured in a two-vehicle wreck that blocked traffic in southwest Marion County on Aug. 8.
Here’s what we know:
Where was the crash? At Southwest 49th Avenue Road and 82nd Place Road near Marion Oaks.
What vehicles were involved? A BMW and a Toyota RAV4 sport utility vehicle.
Which agency is investigating the crash? Florida Highway Patrol.
What time was the crash? Marion County Fire Rescue spokesman James Lucas said crews were assigned the call at 11:52 a.m. and arrived at 11:54 a.m. Troopers said the occupants from one vehicle were transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital where the victim, identified only as a woman, died.
What happened? FHP said the BMW was speeding north on Southwest 49th Avenue Road. The Toyota RAV4 SUV with three occupants, two men and a woman, was westbound on Southwest 82nd Place Road.
The SUV driver made a left and turned in front of the BMW, troopers said. The vehicles collided at the intersection.
Authorities said the Toyota driver suffered minor injuries. One passenger, a woman, later died. The other passenger, a man, was listed in serious condition.
The BMW driver was not injured. Several people were at the scene with that driver.
Troopers said the speed limit on the roadway is 45 mph. The investigation is ongoing. As is typical in fatal motor vehicle crashes, blood samples were taken from both drivers.
Marion County Sheriff’s Office officials were on scene detouring motorists away from the crash site.
