Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are scheduled for this weekend, but Mother Nature may put a damper on the plans.
Meteorologist Tim Sedlock with the National Weather Service in Melbourne said “fireworks are up in the air right now.” Although not the “up in the air” most are hoping for this holiday weekend.
A weather system is forecasted to stall over much of Florida this weekend. There’s a 40% chance for a tropical or subtropical depression forming over the next seven days if an area of low pressure develops in the southeastern Atlantic or Gulf by the holiday weekend, according to the National Hurricane Center.
“It’s going to be wet, it’s going to be sloppy, cloudy and muggy,” Sedlock said. “Keep your umbrellas handy.”
How much rain will Brevard get Fourth of July weekend?
Over the next seven days Brevard could get anywhere from 1 to 3 inches and more in some areas.
During the day, July 4, rain chances are as high as 80%. The night of Fourth of July, prime fireworks time, the chance for thunderstorms and showers remains at 80%.
It’s more of the same Saturday and Sunday. Chances of rain Saturday are 70% and decrease to 40% at night. That’s when Cocoa Beach is planning its Fourth of July drone show, which takes the place of fireworks this year.
Palm Bay and Port St. John also have events planned for July 5.
Sunday the possibility of thunderstorms is 70% and decreases to 60% at night.
