Will Jaguars' free agent cornerback land big payday elsewhere?

Free agents Devin Lloyd and Travis Etienne face uncertain futures with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and perhaps cornerback Montaric Brown does as well.

Brown showcased last season that he can more than hold his own as a full-time starting cornerback. On the year, he allowed a completion rate of just 54% on 68 targets and held opponents to just 10.4 yards per catch. He also came away with two interceptions and forced nine pass breakups.

One would think that the Jaguars would like to have him back. However, there may be a number of other teams that GM James Gladstone will have to compete with.

Coming out of the NFL combine, ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler mentioned Brown among the “top sleeper free agents” this offseason after speaking with executives.

“He is well-positioned in the CB market after the top players are signed,” Fowler wrote.

Then, in Jordan Reid’s latest mock draft, he had Jacksonville selecting a cornerback in Round 2, and noted that, “Montaric Brown could price himself out of Jacksonville’s plans.”

The Jaguars, meanwhile, find themselves in a fairly tight salary cap situation at the moment. Spotrac is projecting that Brown lands a three-year deal worth $27.68 million in free agency.

If the Jaguars do lose Brown, then that starting outside cornerback role opposite of Travis Hunter will have to be filled.
