Wyndham Clark may not have a lot of fans based on his past transgressions at other golf courses. But even the new U.S. Open champion has an “enemies” list. And at the top of it may be a Florida sports superstar
Clark, 32, won his national championship on Sunday for a second time and made a media tour to various New York-based national sports and general interest and entertainment shows — everything from Pat McAfee and Dan Patrick to The Today Show.
That included a podcast appearance on Barstool Sports, where the guys from “Pardon Your Take” pulled up a social media post on X from a decade ago in which Clark wrote, “I hate Baker Mayfield.”
Clark was attending Oklahoma State at the time and Mayfield was at in-state rival Oklahoma as quarterback before going on to becoming the No.1 overall pick in the NFL draft. He’s currently the starting QB for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So, why the hate?
“I’m trying to decide if I should tell the story,” said Clark, who didn’t see the question coming. “Yeah, all right, screw it. I don’t care, people already hate me.”
Turns out Clark’s girlfriend cheated on him with Mayfield.
“That’s a fair tweet,” said Dan “Big Cat” Katz.
Clark went on to say that the hate in his heart is gone. In fact, he’s become a Mayfield fan and he’s doing all right in the girlfriend department these days, so, apparently all is good.
“I hope this is actually a bro moment to be like, ‘oh bro, my bad, I didn’t know. She never told me,’ and I’m like, ‘it’s all good. We’re homies. Let’s play golf.’ That’s where I hope this comes from.”
