The Miami Hurricanes await their fate and their place in the 2026 NCAA men’s basketball tournament after three long years away from March Madness.
Miami is a lock to punch its ticket after going 25-8 in its first season under head coach Jai Lucas and finishing third in the ACC regular season. Led by Miami native and first-team All-ACC forward Malik Reneau, the Hurricanes went 13-5 in conference play and reached the semifinals of the ACC tournament.
UM had made deep runs in the NCAA tournament two straight years, making its first Final Four in 2023, before falling apart in the final two seasons under Jim Larrañaga. Lucas led an instant turnaround, highlighted by a 10-game winning streak and a 75-66 upset win over North Carolina.

Miami vs Missouri in 2026 NCAA tournament
The Hurricanes drew the No. 7 seed in the West Region. They will play No. 10 Missouri (20-12) in the first round Friday, March 20, with No. 2 Purdue or No. 15 Queens waiting if they make the second round.
Miami basketball tickets in March Madness first round
Tickets for all sessions at Enterprise Center in St. Louis were available for $673 on StubHub shortly after the brackets were revealed Sunday, March 15. That’s where the Hurricanes will be Friday, March 20. Ticket prices for their session will be known once the game time is announced.
ESPN analyst defends Miami in potential Purdue matchup
On ESPN’s Bracketology show after the brackets were revealed, analyst Jay Bilas argued that Purdue had an easy path to the Elite Eight. Colleague Jay Williams stepped in with a rebuttal: “Miami’s a really good team.”

Miami vs UCF in March Madness?
Most of the leading bracketology experts are putting the Hurricanes in an all-Florida matchup in the first round. However, the UCF Knights wound up the 10-seed in the East Region against UCLA.
USF basketball makes it 4 from Florida in NCAA tournament
The South Florida Bulls beat Wichita State 70-55 in the American Conference championship. That automatic berth gives the Sunshine State four teams in the men’s tournament, with USF joining defending champion Florida, Miami and UCF. The Gators were the only state team to punch a ticket in 2025.
Penn basketball buzzer beater provides early March Madness
As we wait for the bracket release, Penn provided some early fireworks with an improbable win over top-seeded Yale in the Ivy League championship. Down by 3 with just under 6 seconds left, Quakers guard T.J. Power took an inbounds pass the length of the court and drained a game-tying 3-pointer to send the final to overtime. The basket gave Power 40 points in the game, and he’d add four more in the extra frame to guide third-seeded Penn to an 88-84 victory. Welcome to March Madness!
Will Miami make NCAA tournament? Miami Ohio, that is
That’s the big question college basketball fans have been asking for weeks. But no, they’re not talking about the Hurricanes of Miami (Florida), who are a shoo-in for March Madness. The Miami in question is the RedHawks of Miami (Ohio). They went a remarkable 31-0 in the regular season, becoming just the fifth Division I men’s team to do so since the NCAA tournament field expanded to 64 teams in 1984.
The problem is Miami (OH) did so against one of the weakest schedules in the country, with zero games against the vaunted Quad 1 teams and going just 2-0 against Quad 2 teams. The RedHawks won their last three games by just 2 points each, a buzzer-beater in one and in overtime for another. Then they lost their MAC tournament opener 87-83 to UMass, meaning they’d need one of 37 at-large bids to make it into the field of 68. Though it could be close, bracketology experts predict the other Miami should make it, if only into the First Four before the real fun begins.
