Fans, media react to MSU basketball's NCAA Tournament draw, loaded East Region

There’s nothing like Selection Sunday — the excitement of finding out where, when and who you’ll be playing in the NCAA Tournament. Dreams of potential deep runs and fears of an early exit in March. And, of course, the instant reactions to your favorite team’s draw and whether to not you got a good seed / region or a raw deal. For Michigan State this year, it’s a mixture of both from fans and media.

As many Spartans (including myself) feared may happen, Michigan State slid down to a No. 3 seed in the released NCAA Tournament bracket on Sunday. The Spartans were passed by Purdue for the final No. 2 seed after the Boilermakers won four games in four days to capture the Big Ten Tournament title.

Michigan State landed as the No. 3 seed in the East Region and will open the tournament against No. 14 seed North Dakota State on Thursday in the first round. Should the Spartans get past the Bison, they are in store for what could be a gauntlet of blue blood programs in the later rounds. In the East Region, Duke is the No. 1 seed, UConn is No. 2 seed, Kansas is the No. 4 seed, St. John’s is the No. 5 seed, Louisville is the No. 6 seed and UCLA is the No. 7 seed — so it’s safe to say the East Region is loaded.

Following the bracket reveal, fans and media both took to social media to share their thoughts and reactions on the Spartans’ draw and the East Region in general. Let’s check out some of the best reactions from social media platform X below:
