Another PGA Championship is in the books and there’s now less than a month until a historic rendition of the United States Open Championship for golf.
The 125th edition of the U.S. Open will be played at Oakmont Country Club outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2025, returning to a familiar site. The U.S. Open was last played at Oakmont in 2016, when Dustin Johnson won the first major of his career. Bryson DeChambeau is the defending champion after taking advantage of Rory McIlroy’s late collapse last year at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina.
There are already 85 golfers granted exemptions into this year’s field at the U.S. Open as of May 19, including Scottie Scheffler, McIlroy and DeChambeau. More exemptions will be awarded before the first round tees off next month and sectional qualifiers will help fill out the rest of the field.

When is the 2025 U.S. Open?
The 2025 U.S. Open is scheduled to begin with first-round action on Thursday, June 12 and run through the tournament’s final round on Sunday, June 15.
Where is the 2025 U.S. Open?
The U.S. Open will be held at Oakmont Country Club in Plum, Pennsylvania outside Pittsburgh this year. The course has previously hosted the U.S. Open in 1927, 1935, 1953, 1962, 1973, 1983, 1994, 2007 and 2016. The USGA considers Oakmont an anchor site for the U.S. Open and it is also scheduled to return in 2033, 2042 and 2049.

U.S. Open 2025 schedule: Dates, time, how to watch
The 2025 U.S. Open begins with the first round on Thursday, June 12 and continues with second-round action on Friday, June 15. The first tee times are set to begin at 6:45 p.m. ET from No. 1 and No. 10 and the final groups will tee off at 2:42 p.m. ET during the opening two rounds, according to the USGA.
The third and fourth round start times are to be determined based on how many golfers make the cut. Gates to Oakmont Country Club are scheduled to open at 7 a.m. ET and the first pairing is expected to tee off between 8-9 a.m. ET, according to the USGA. The final pairing on Saturday will start from the first tee at approximately 3 p.m. The last pairing for Sunday will start from the first tee at approximately 2:30 p.m.
