Cardinal Mooney has jumped up to the No. 1 overall spot in the Week 9 FHSAA power rankings.
The Cougars (6-1) were outside the top five in the Week 8 power rankings, but vaulted to the top spot after beating previoulsy undefeated Lakewood 35-12.
Cardinal Mooney has won three consecutive games against state-ranked opponents, are riding a five-game win streak and have scored at least 35 points in every win this season.
Vero Beach, Buchholz, Armwood and Lakeland round out the top five. Armwood (7-0) had been No. 1 overall in the previous three power rankings.
Vero Beach (Class 7A), Buchholz (6A), Lakeland (5A), St. Augustine (4A), Booker (3A), Cardinal Mooney (2A), Carrollwood Day (1A) and Blountstown (Rural) are the top overall teams in their respective classes. The top seed in each class is guaranteed home-field advantage through the state semifinals.
