The order of the top five teams in the FHSAA power rankings have shuffled, but the teams remain the same for the second consecutive week.
Undefeated Armwood remains the top overall team in the state with a power ranking of 22.901. The Hawks are followed by Buchholz, Vero Beach, Spruce Creek and St. Augustine.
Buchholz lost to Vero Beach at home in Week 2 but jumped up a spot in the latest rankings. Despite the head-to-head loss, Buchholz has a major advantage in strength of shedule. Buchholz’s 11.70 strength of schedule is No. 2 in 6A and No. 4 overall.
Vero Beach (7A), Armwood (6A), Lakeland (5A), St. Augustine (4A), Booker (3A), Cardinal Mooney (2A), Carrollwood Day (1A) and Blountstown (Rural) are the top teams in their respective classes. The top seed in each class is guaranteed home field advantage through the state semifinals.
The rankings continue to not look very highly on defending state champions from South Florida.
West Boca is No. 79 overall and No. 15 in Class 6A, St. Thomas Aquinas is No. 61 overall and No. 7 in Class 5A, American Heritage is No. 87 overall and No. 14 in Class 4A, Miami Northwestern is No. 41 overall and No. 4 in Class 3A, and Chaminade-Madonna is No. 25 overall and No. 3 in Class 1A. All five teams are ranked in the top 10 in the USA TODAY Florida Network Super 25.
