It’s hot at the French Open, and Coco Gauff’s play so far has matched the temperatures in Paris. She hopes to keep that fire going on her quest for a repeat title at Roland Garros.
In her first-round match against Boca High grad Taylor Townsend, the Delray Beach native sputtered a bit out of the gate with five double faults. But Gauff hit just 15 unforced errors in a straight-sets win, winning each game of the second set with aid from some ice-cold tennis rackets (there is a reason for sticking one’s gear in a giant cooler, as explained by former WTA player Sabine Lisicki on Instagram).
The 22-year-old Florida superstar is after her third Grand Slam championship and become the first American woman to go back-to-back at the French Open since Monica Seles won three straight from 1990 to 1992. Ranked fourth in the WTA rankings, Gauff hit some road bumps coming into Roland Garros before reaching the final in her final tune-up in Rome.

The women’s draw has already seen a favorite bow out with second-seeded Elena Rybakina, the reigning Australian Open champ, falling in the second round to Yuliia Starodubsteva. And top-seeded Jannik Sinner, the heavy favorite to win the men’s draw, fell apart at the end of his second-round match against Juan Manuel Cerundolo. Gauff has reached at least the quarterfinals at every French Open since 2021; she’ll look to keep that hot streak going and continue her path to a semifinal date with rival Aryna Sabalenka in her next match against Mayar Sherif.
Here’s what to know about Gauff’s next match, including how to watch on TV and streaming.

Sherif is currently ranked 149th in the WTA rankings, though she ranked as high as 31st in 2023. Sherif has one WTA singles tournament win, the clay-court W100 Biarritz, and she’s never made it past the third round in a major.
Gauff has faced Sherif once before, sweeping her 6-2, 6-2 at the Cincinnati Open in 2023.
