Florida’s defense should look considerably different in 2026 under first-year defensive coordinator Brad White.
The former Wake Forest linebacker arrives in Gainesville after a successful stint with Kentucky, where he helped develop several NFL draft picks, including two-time pro-bowler Josh Allen. He also helped lead the Wildcats to six bowl appearances and top-25 defensive rankings in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022.
The Gators will be more versatile under White, as he’s said the team will utilize three and four-man fronts. Playing from multiple fronts will allow Florida to disguise pressures and create matchup problems for SEC opposition. White’s defenses are built on stopping the run, generating pressure and getting ahead of pre-snap looks.
White and head coach Jon Sumrall worked together at Kentucky and aligned on philosophy. Key returners and added depth through the portal should give White ample talent to position week-to-week — spring practice offered a preview of the unit’s potential.
