Everyone’s chasing Eric Cole at the 2026 Charles Schwab Challenge. Just like we all predicted, right?
The 37-year-old grad of South Florida’s Nova Southeastern University carded eight birdies in a 7-under Round 3 to take the lead at 12 under heading into the final round. Chasing his first career PGA Tour win, Cole had back-to-back sixth-place finishes at New Orleans and Myrtle Beach to follow up a T14 at the Texas Open. His closest brush with victory came at the 2023 Honda Classic, when he lost in a playoff to Chris Kirk.
The rest of the final group consists of Ryan Gerard, who’s got one Tour win to his name, and Mac Meissner, who has none. Gerard enters play today a stroke behind Cole, with Meissner and reigning U.S. Open champion J.J. Spaun two back. PGA Championship runner-up Alex Smalley, Hideki Matsuyama and Russell Henley come in at 9 under, while a 5-under third round put Nico Echavarria within shouting distance four shots out of the lead.
