Some new faces are taking over as the 2026 PGA Championship enters the weekend. Several players making their first big play at a major shot up the leaderboard in the second round at Aronimink.
Fueled by a bunker shot holed out for an eagle, 30-year-old Maverick McNealy took the solo lead after Aldrich Potgieter briefly held that spot; the 21-year-old South African slid back after closing his strong round with two bogeys. Alex Smalley overcame a run of three straight bogeys to head into moving day at 4 under. Stephan Jaeger kept himself in the mix as well, while 24-year-old David Puig got into contention thanks to a 3-under day.
Of course there are plenty of familiar names up on the leaderboard (not all of them missed the cut), none looming more than reigning PGA champion Scottie Scheffler. Chris Gotterup lit up the course with a 5-under day to get to 3 under for Round 3, while Hideki Matsuyama, Cameron Young and Justin Thomas all had impressive second rounds as well. Jon Rahm, Min Woo Lee and Patrick Cantlay can also make a move today if they play their cards right.
