The 2026 PGA Championship is wide open heading into Round 2 today. The score to beat for most of the first round was a 3-under 67 with few players in golf’s second major able to crack that for long at Aronimink Golf Club outside of Philadelphia.
Stephan Jaeger set the bar early, with Min Woo Lee, Aldrich Potgieter, Ryo Hisatsune and Corey Conners among those seeking their first major title who got off to a sterling start. Justin Thomas and Martin Kaymer made a strong push for their first Wanamaker Trophy in a decade or more, while Jordan Spieth began his 10th quest for the career grand slam in impressive fashion. The guy who won it last year, Scottie Scheffler, is in contention as expected.
Less predictable was Rory McIlroy, a two-time PGA champion and winner of two straight Masters, breaking down at the end of his Round 1 and at risk of missing the cut if he doesn’t rebound today. He’s not alone in the danger zone: A host of other pre-tournament favorites from Ludvig Åberg to Bryson DeChambeau need to rebound after shaky first rounds, as well.

PGA Championship location: Where is Aronimink?
The PGA Championship site rotates every year, and this year’s host is Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, about 20 miles west of Philadelphia. The course previously hosted the PGA Championship in 1962, as well as the 1977 U.S. Amateur, 2003 Senior PGA Championship and the 2020 Women’s PGA Championship. Aronimink plays at par-70 over 7,394 yards.

Scottie Scheffler pulled away from the field at Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, shooting 11 under par to win the 2025 PGA Championship by five strokes over Bryson DeChambeau, Harris English and Davis Riley.
