A Manatee County man has been sentenced to life in prison for sexually abusing three female family members, the State Attorney’s Office announced.
Sterick Jerome Nixon was convicted by a jury of lewd or lascivious molestation by a person 18 years or older upon a child less than 12 years of age on March 17, the State Attorney’s Office said in a press release.
Nixon was sentenced to life in prison by Circuit Court Judge Frederick Mercurio on May 6 and was designated a sexual predator. The crimes were committed between 2018 and 2021.
On Dec. 29, 2022, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of the defendant displaying himself in a lewd or lascivious manner, the release said. During the investigation, law enforcement discovered that the defendant had previously sexually abused two other family members. Those victims then disclosed that the defendant sexually abused them for several years.
“All three of these young ladies showed incredible courage and strength in disclosing their abuse at the hands of the defendant,” Scott Callin, the lead prosecutor in the case, said in a statement. “They showed those same qualities in bravely testifying before a jury and the defendant. We are pleased at the jury’s verdict and are thankful that the verdict and sentence will assure the safety of these girls and the community.”
