West Marine, the nation’s largest retailer of boating, fishing and marine supplies, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and plans to close 59 stores nationwide, including eight locations in Florida.
The company, which began as a small rope supply store in California in 1968, has grown into a marine retail giant with more than 200 locations across the United States.
