Over the past several years, Wellen Park has experienced remarkable growth, evolving into one of the nation’s most sought-after master-planned communities.
That progress has been intentional, guided by a long-term vision to create a community defined by thoughtful planning, connectivity and lasting value.
At the same time, that progress has unfolded alongside a prolonged and misguided effort to de-annex significant portions of the community from the city of North Port.
That effort has now been reviewed through multiple levels of the court system, including the most recent appellate decision that once again rejected the claims at the center of the de-annexation push.
Despite those repeated outcomes, the matter is now being pursued through a request for review by the Florida Supreme Court, the highest level of appeal in the state.
While it is within their legal rights for these parties to continue pursuing this matter, the effort over many years has demonstrated a clear disregard for the will of the majority of people who live here – and it has come at a real cost to residents throughout Wellen Park and the city of North Port.
More than anything, the issue created a level of uncertainty that has spanned more than half a decade.
Questions surrounding how de-annexation could impact entitlements, infrastructure and future development created challenges not just for long-term planning but for maintaining momentum at a critical time in bringing the community’s long-term vision to life.
Wellen Park’s focus remains strong
We are grateful to the city of North Port for its leadership and commitment to seeing this process through, and to the residents who remained engaged and confident in the vision for Wellen Park as part of the city of North Port.
That continued support has mattered.
Today we remain focused on what comes next.
We continue to build Wellen Park’s foundation with new neighborhoods that reflect the evolving needs of residents at every stage of life.
From thoughtfully designed residential offerings to age-qualified communities, each addition is part of a broader strategy to create a balanced and connected place.
Equally important is the continued investment in well-being, which extends beyond lifestyle to include access to essential services that support a strong and sustainable community.
Wellen Park’s growth continues to create jobs, expand access to health care and strengthen a range of educational options for families from child care and pre-K through high school and into college.
These are core pillars of any thriving community, and they are supported by a thoughtful integration of residential, commercial and community uses designed to meet people’s needs and bring them together.
As we look ahead, our focus is clear.
We will continue to invest in the infrastructure, amenities and experiences that define Wellen Park and elevate this region.
We will continue to work collaboratively with the city of North Port and regional partners.
And we will continue to prioritize the long-term interests of the community’s residents.
Regardless of what may come next, our commitment remains unchanged.
Wellen Park will continue to move forward with purpose, grounded in a clear vision and a responsibility to those who call this community home.
