Wehiwa Aloy wins Golden Spikes Award over FSU's Alex Lodise

FSU baseball shortstop Alex Lodise finished as a runner-up for the Golden Spikes Award, with Arkansas shortstop Wehiwa Aloy winning the prestigious award on Saturday. The award honors the top amateur baseball player in the nation who best exhibits exceptional on-field ability and exemplary sportsmanship.

He was looking to be the fifth Seminole to win the award, the most of any school since it was created in 1978. Buster Posey (2008), J.D. Drew (1997), Mike Loynd (1986), and Mike Fuentes (1981) are FSU’s previous winners.

He ranked No. 9 in the country in hits (95), No. 11 in total bases (170), No. 12 in hits per game (1.64), and No. 23 in batting average (.394). He hit 17 home runs, had 18 doubles, scored 62 runs, and had at least one hit in 46 of 55 games, including 30 multi-hit performances.

Lodise had one of the best seasons in FSU’s history and was named the ACC Player and Defensive Player of the Year. He also won the Dick Howser Trophy and is a consensus First-Team All-American.

Aloy hit .350 with 21 homers, 19 doubles, 68 RBI, and 81 runs scored. He was the SEC Player of the Year after slugging .673 with a .434 on-base percentage.
