Waterside park in Cape Coral draws hundreds first day of opening

Families spread out over Cape Coral’s Jaycee Park, this week, reveling in the splash pad, new equipment, meandering trails and waterfront views after more than a year after it closed.

The improved — but not new — Jaycee Park opened Thursday, April 30, right in time for Cape Coral’s children to make their mark and use the park’s many renovations as summer break approaches.

A news release announcing the re-opening explains that “issues like aging facilities, invasive trees and parking and pedestrian challenges” prompted the city to revamp the park “into a more accessible, family-friendly waterfront destination.”

The park’s facelift addresses and adds many new improvements, which include:

Accessibility played a large role in the redevelopment of Jaycee Park. The playground will become the fourth in the state of Florida with dual designations for inclusivity and accessibility.

The pathways have been renovated to make it easier for visitors of all mobility levels to explore the park.

And the parking area has been redesigned to improve safety by incorporating ADA-compliant features for disabled individuals.

The park, which is 11.8 acres, is at 4215 SE 20th Place.
