Watch the moment former Vanguard football player Cam’Ron King gets surprised by a scholarship at Auburn

The Auburn Tigers football program announced on Tuesday night, Aug. 5, that redshirt freshman walk-on wide receiver Cam’Ron King had earned a full athletic scholarship.

The same King is a former Vanguard football player who played from 2021-2023.

King, a wide receiver, graduated from Vanguard early to enroll at Auburn during the spring 2024 semester. Once there, King took a year to develop his body. He’s now reaping its benefits with just over two weeks to go before the start of the 2025 college football season.

In a video posted by Auburn, King expressed gratitude as he answered Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze’s questions about the first year of his collegiate career. He also discussed the connection he has with his teammates and spoke of his hero, his mother Mel King, who fuels his love for the game.

“She’s my number one supporter, King said. “That’s why I play football. Its for her.”

Before he left the stage to reclaim his seat among his teammates, Freeze called him back to the front of the meeting room for the grand announcement. As Freeze finished his sentence, announcing that King had been placed on scholarship, the former Vanguard Knight was mobbed by his Tigers teammates for his accomplishment.
