VOTE: Times-Union Boys High School Athlete of the Week, March 16

The results are in.

Tocoi Creek junior Tristan Straw is the new Florida Times-Union Boys Athlete of the Week for Northeast Florida high school sports for the 2025-26 season, covering the week of March 2-7, 2026 in the Jacksonville area.

He continued his strong season with wins at No. 1 singles and doubles in the Toros’ victory over St. Augustine.

He placed first in a vote of top Northeast Florida performers that included Lukas Brougham (University Christian baseball), Gavin Duprey (Creekside baseball), Bryce Fiore (St. Johns Country Day wrestling), Nolan Nelson (Providence basketball), Tre Vazquez (Yulee track) and Kedric Wright Jr. (Palatka track).

This week’s Boys Athlete of the Week vote

It’s time to vote for Florida Times-Union’s boys High School Athlete of the Week for the week of March 9-14, 2026.

The Times-Union gathers nominees from scores, stats and nominations e-mailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across Northeast Florida. Coaches can e-mail these stats and scores to preps@jacksonville.com. Deadline to receive nominations is 7 p.m. Saturdays.

This week’s voting begins Monday morning and closes at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 12. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour. Vote at jacksonville.com/sports.

We reserve the right to disqualify a candidate or declare a vote “no contest” if tampering such as bots or offering to pay for voting is evident. Please respect the integrity of the vote the way these athletes respect the integrity of the game.

Nate Branch, Trinity Christian track

The junior set a personal best of 21 feet, 7 1/2 inches to win the boys long jump and the team title at the Baldwin meet.

Colin Butler, Ponte Vedra track

The senior won the discus (176 feet, 8 inches) and shot put (51 feet, 7 1/4 inches) with personal-best marks at the Friday Knight Invite.

Carson Crawford, Fleming Island basketball

The junior scored 40 total points in the Golden Eagles’ Class 5A final four games.

Jay Deering, Stanton tennis

The junior won No. 1 singles and doubles against Wolfson.

Cole Dennis, Bishop Snyder baseball

The senior pitched a two-hitter against Farragut and batted .444 with two homers and a double for the week.

Cade Hogan, Tocoi Creek volleyball

The senior provided 80 assists in wins over Nease, Bartram Trail and Creekside.

Preston Matricardi, Fernandina Beach baseball

The junior pitched a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts against Oakleaf.
