Road next to Trump's Mar-a-Lago reopens after two-month closure

The coastal road next to President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club has reopened to through-traffic, about two months after the U.S. Secret Service ordered its indefinite closure.

South Ocean Boulevard is open to both northbound and southbound travel starting the morning of Monday, May 4, Palm Beach said in an alert. The road had been closed between the Southern Boulevard traffic circle and South County Road since March 3, effectively cutting the town in half and forcing traffic to detour to and from the mainland via drawbridges.

Before the round-the-clock road closure, security measures typically included closing the road only when Trump visited his Palm Beach home. In announcing the indefinite closure in March, three days after the beginning of U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran, Secret Service officials said the step was part of “enhanced security measures” implemented by the agency along with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

The town also said bridge openings will revert to their usual schedules. For more information, go to TownofPalmBeach.com.

Trump most recently visited Palm Beach County from May 1-2. The evening of May 1, he spoke for about an hour to the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach. Later on May 2, he traveled south to his Trump National Doral Golf Club, where he watched the PGA Cadillac Championship. The president returned to Washington, D.C., on May 3.
