Misinformation, unproven claims on Venice airport
I am responding to a recent letter that contained unproven claims about Venice Municipal Airport (“Venice airport is causing headaches for me and my neighbors,” June 8).
First, aircraft touch-and-go takeoffs and landings save time and money, and they are routine for both student pilots and qualified pilots.
In addition, many airports like Venice Municipal have flight schools – and these airports will have more touch-and-go traffic.
Regarding the letter writer’s complaint about turbine engine exhaust fumes, this is something that ought to be expected if you discover one morning that you have moved in next door to an airport.
These fumes dissipate quickly, depending on the wind, and they don’t travel far.
Here’s the crux of the matter: the letter writer stated that one of his neighbors had collected jet particulates from her grass.
But where is the verification for that?
We would all like to see it.
The same applies to the letter writer’s claim that the airport is causing pollution in Deertown Gully.
Where is the independent proof to support that claim?
You have to give the Venice City Council credit for working to address these concerns, no matter how misinformed or inflammatory they may be.
Every few years a new crop of folks moves in near the airport.
And once they arrive, they become candidates to be convinced to climb on the anti-airport bandwagon with the same old false and misinformed claims.
You could write a book about it.
