Two-Minute Drill for May 8: NFL Rookie minicamps are here; Spring high school championships

The state of Florida’s three NFL teams will be holding their rookie minicamps beginning Friday, May 9, and going through Sunday, May 11.

Some NFL teams held their rookie mini camps the prior weekend.

No. 2 overall pick Travis Hunter will report for the Jaguars, as will the Dolphins’ No. 13 pick Kenneth Grant and the Bucs’ No. 19 pick, Emeka Egbuka, among others.

Rookie mini camps are three-day events where newly drafted players and rookie undrafted free agent signees get acquainted with their team and the NFL lifestyle.

Following the end to rookie minicamp, the teams will then come together for 10-session OTAs  later in May, followed by three-day mandatory minicamps in June. 

Each team’s schedule is a little bit different.

FHSAA spring state championships

With the school year winding down, that means high school sports are all coming to a close.

Tennis state championships were held last week, but five more sports have state championships coming up.

Flag football championships will be May 8-10 in Tampa.

Lacross state championships are May 8-10 in Naples.

Track and field state championships will take place May 9th and 10th in Jacksonville.

Baseball state championships will be held between May 15th and May 20th in Fort Myers.

And Softball state championships will be held May 20th through the 24th in Longwood.
