Twirls, ties and timeless moments: YMCA’s Daddy Daughter Dance

Over 85 daughters and granddaughters descended upon the YMCA on Marco Island as it turned its Youth Development Center into a Valentine-themed dance floor Feb. 13, for the annual Daddy Daughter dance. The nearly 145 dancers enjoyed the high energy and fun extravaganza.

A DJ kept the music going as the families danced, took breaks for food at the buffet and lined up for professional photos. One popular feature was a costume area where the girls could choose fun outfits before posing for pictures.

For many of the children, posing for the photo was their second favorite part because they could select props from various themes, some looking like movie stars, others looking like historical creatures, and country western.  “My dad said that I looked like a movie star,” said one daughter.

“This is our favorite night of the year,” said one of the dads, “It’s just me and her—no phones, no distractions, and just pure fun!”

His daughter agreed. “I like dancing with my dad because he spins me really fast,” she said.

Another Dad said the event is a tradition for his family. “I started coming with my first daughter and now I have another daughter here tonight, so it’s the three of us.  That’s special!”

One father summed it up by saying “ … the night is about making memories.” “She’ll outgrow this one day, so we’re soaking it up while we can.”
